NadaDada is a group of artists who came to recognition in 2007 with the first Dada Motel Exhibit centered at the historic El Cortez Hotel in Reno, Nevada.
Outside the historic mining town of Goldfield, NV, in a desert dotted by Joshua Trees, you can see a field of old cars that are wildly painted and jammed into the ground at unlikely angles. This is the International Car Forest of the Last Church, created by Michael "Mark" Rippie and painted by Chad Sorg. In July 2014, I stayed in Goldfield and created night photos with light painting to enhance the bold colors of the painted cars even more. Light painting photos of this nature are often best done near a full moon, and although occasionally plagued with cloudy skies, I managed to get some photos I was happy with here at this strange art installation.
With a nod of gratitude to Troy Paiva and Lance Keimig, two photographers who largely pioneered this sort of light painting approach.. I don't do this sort of light painting often, but their two books definitely had an influence on this photo.

Pandora's Trunk (4829)
This evening, the sky was filled with unusual, beautiful cloud formations. I decided to make this composition look as if the clouds and stars were streaming from the open trunk of the car, almost as if spirits or the very stars were being unleashed. Pearsonville Auto Salvage Yard, Mojave Desert, California. I used a handheld LED flashlight to illuminate the interior/exterior of the truck. We had these amazing clouds most of the evening, creating fantastic shapes with or without long exposures.
This is a real photo taken at night. Everything was illuminated by a big bright moon, an almost full moon, almost bright enough to read a book. And setting my tripod-mounted camera to a long exposure made the camera much more sensitive to light than our eyes on this already bright evening. This is why this photo seems brighter than what we might see at night. It is not due to post-processing. The moon, which reflects light from the sun, also makes the sky bluer, and when the photo is a long exposure photo, the sky will appear brighter, making the blue more apparent. I also illuminated the junkyard car with a handheld ProtoMachines LED2 flashlight while the camera shutter was open. This is not a post-processing creation. No pixels were harmed during the creation of this photo. :D

This is a real photo taken at night. This evening, everything was illuminated by a big bright moon, an almost full moon, almost bright enough to read a book. This is why this photo seems brighter than what we might see at night. It is not due to post-processing. The moon, which reflects light from the sun, also makes the sky bluer, and when the photo is a long exposure photo, the sky will appear brighter, making the blue more apparent. I also illuminated the interior in a very colorful manner with a handheld LED flashlight while the camera shutter was open, grazing light off the walls, ceiling, and floor. This is not a post-processing creation. No pixels were harmed during the creation of this photo. :D

Como viene siendo habitual los jueves es el día por excelencia de Shadows.. dedicamos estos días para trabajar bien paisaje si vemos que las condiciones acompañan o un poquito de lightpainting resguardados en algún lugar sino podemos estar fuera.
En esta ocasión teníamos pendiente acudir a esta localización que ya habíamos visto a alguno de nuestros colegas nocturnos.
Una de las estaciones abandonadas más bonitas que tenemos cerca de Madrid, su estado de conservación es bueno y para hacer unas nocturnas es ideal.
En este caso optamos por iluminar el interior con tonos cálidos, para aprovechar los azules que nos dejarían en el cielo el paso de las nubes en larga exposición.
Luego iluminamos el exterior para dotar a la escena de algo de contraste y dejarla como nos gusta.
Nos decantamos por este encuadre para esta toma pues, la verdad, es que parece que los arboles están puestos a posta para sacarles en la foto intentamos quitar una gran fuente de luz que salía al final de la vía cerrando el encuadre.

I illuminated the foreground with a hand-held ProtoMachines LED2 flashlight to bring out more depth. This is not a post-processing creation. No pixels were harmed during the creation of this photo. :D I used a Pinout remote controller/app to set and trigger the camera.
I took this photo in Joshua Tree National Park, CA, hanging out with Dave Dasinger while doing so. JTNP is my spiritual home for night photography, and it felt utterly fantastic to return here to photograph here at night and hike during the day.
