It is certainly welcome to see that those office bearers and councillors who arrogantly declared that.

18/12/07 Depicting the ultra left sectarianism which it has been known for the AISA has once again leveled baseless allegations at the SFI in its last notice. Sticking to their earlier theory of "ifyou are not with us you are with the administration" they have said that SFI is trying to sabotage the movement for fellowships. The reason for this is even more interesting. Just because the SFI "dared" to ask the JNUSU representatives to clarify their position on the issue of stalling of fellowships because of contradictory positions of the JNUSU and university officials regarding the fellowships of those students whose office orders had already been issued. SFI had at no point of time disassociated itself from the demand of universal coverage for all students who were not getting other kind of scholarships or the demand of making the cut off dates from July 2005. While what was needed was a clear cur response from the JNUSU (which was never given), it is indeed surprising as to why has the AISA chosen to attack the SFI. The SFI would also like to put some questions to the AISA and their representatives in the JNUSU. Would they deny the fact that the resolution to organize a protest demonstration at the UGC was brought by SFI councilors? Why is it that the JNUSU leadership only came out with the resolutions of the JNUSU council meeting after 8 days? The SFI had expressed its dissent at this delay in bringing out the resolutions. Would the AISA deny the fact that it took 2 notices and one letter to the JNUSU President by the SFI to get the JNUSU leadership to make the resolutions public? The SFI had said earlier as well that the fact that 8 crucial days had been wasted in making the resolutions public would mean that end semester examinations and presentations would start for a lot of students and make it difficult for them to participate in the demonstration. Dropping to a new low in terms of personal attacks the AISA has accused the SFI councilors for not attending the JNUSU's protest demonstration. We would like to ask the AISA to explain to us as to how is one suppose to attend a demonstration at UGC if one has got exams and presentations at the same time in the campus? The SFI would like to advise the AISA to desist from such mud slinging and individual attacks against the SFI and its elected councilors. We would also request their JNUSU office bearers to ensure that the democratic functioning of the JNUSU is upheld and it does not take numerous reminders from other organizations to even make public the resolutions of a JNUSU council meeting. The SFI is committed to the cause of struggle for more scholarships and revising the cut off date for UGC scholarships to July 2005 as well as other demands in the JNUSU's charter of demands. But we firmly believe that there are better ways to mobilize students for these issues than hurling baseless and unprincipled allegations at one's political opponents. .

struggle against Lyngdoh Committee Recommendations (LCR) has been fought, surrendered and (almost) lost! The election process is rinally underway and the festive, carnivalesque environment is at its peak. The .

enormity of the situation can scarcely be overstated. Now that LCR have been put in place, it will be very hard to oppose them and the restoration of the former JNUSU constitution becomes all the more .

difficult. This calls for an intensification and renewal ofour struggle against LCR. The left parties seem to .

have never denied.this fact at least on paper. It is only with the assurance of ((Waging our struggle against .

Lyngdoh, once the new JNUSU is elected", that all left parties are now making a desperate claim to power. Those who tack imagination cannot imagine what is lacking. .

On the face of it the LCR claims to cleanse the election process of criminalization, communalism and money power. But what is objectionable is the vision of campus politics and student (in)activism that the .

LCR envisages. The various provisions of LCR are designed to suffocate student activism ofall its progressive content. In the ..arne of curtailing criminalization the LCR seeks to dissociate student politics .

not only from parliamentary political parties (Clause 6.3) but also from issues plaguing society at large. What we can see here is in fact a surreptitious attempt to depoliticize student politics and delink it from .

Tha Quest For A Socially-lnclusiv~ JNU Is Bound To March Onf!.

Over the past two weeks, we have seen a determined struggle for a socially just campus, for democratisation of.

~ .

education in JNU and for administrative neutrality. The rel~y hunger strike, that lasted 11 days and sawthe participationof more than 100 students, finally forced a reluctant administration to concede to many of JNUSU's key demands. Therewas however another striking feature ofthe agitation-SFI's token presence, which ofcourse the campus has got used toby now. SFI resorts to tokenism even when it supposedly leads an agitation, and this was of course, as th~y have freelyadmitted, a JNUSU-Ied agitation. Throughout the two-week long campaign, the SFI made no attempt to mobilise.

students-nomess campaigns, no room-to-room campaigns, no pamphlets, no posters. Theircouncillors in theUnion, as well as their leadership, could not even mobilise themselves to attend the two programmes thatJNUSU had during the hun~erstrike, forget about mobilising others. On one night, they did not even offer a singlerepresentative either from their organisation, or from JNUSU to participate in the hunger strike. All this amounts tonothing but a consciously calibrated tokenism to weaken the movement as much as possible..

SFI's excuse for their poor participation was "academic pressure". We would like to tell the SFI: Academic.

pressure is, unfortunately for you, not divided on party lines. Hundreds of students, in spite of their exams,.

though it importantto participate in an agitation ofsuch significance for the future ofJNU. It is unfortunate that.

resign. Again, just two years back, during Mandai II (2006), when YFE was running a maliciously casteist campaign on.

AISA condemns the communal voilence in Gorakhpur in which the BJP MP Yogi Adityanath has played a major role.Not only is Gorakpur but the communal voilence is spreading to the other Eastern UP time and again. At the beginning of this tension the BJP MP fanned the frenzy further. Following his arrest the goons of RSS-BJP's Hindu Yuvavahini have looted and burnt shops and vehicles and as usual minorities have been made the deliberate targets. They tried to burn a train also.Ciearly the effort is to repeat Gujarat in Gorakhpur. At the same time we condemn the UP government, which with ulterior motives of cashing in on communal polarization allowed the frenzy to spread unabated. BJP with its fascist communal agenda and UP government with its shamful record of criminal negligence of law and order in the state are responsible for this mounting violence. AISA appeals to the student community to protest against the communal flare-up and demands punishment for those perpetrating and abating communal violence in the state. .
