Live and work but do not forget to play, to have fun in life and really enjoy it. ~ Eileen Caddy

Photographed at the Jenny Lake boat dock - Grand Teton National Park

On this particular day, we enjoyed a short boat ride across Jenny Lake, and then hiked the 2 mile round trip to Inspiration Point...talk about some amazing views....instead of taking the boat back, we opted to walk the South Shore Trail another two miles back to the parking lot....highly recommend it if you ever visit the area; it's so peaceful and serene. Unfortunately, I was shooting into the sun and didn't have my tripod with me to bracket any shots, so that explains why the sky is blown out....still liked the image though :-)

Wishing everyone a fabulous weekend...don't forget to take some time to relax and play a bit!!!! And as always, thanks for stopping by to visit :-)

This morning came the long-awaited announcement that the almost-mythical East Broad Top had been sold to a nonprofit that hopes to resume operations in 2021.

I have got in to the habit of checking my OneDrive store on a daily basis, where I am served an "On this Day" photo feed from our digital archives.

It seems 22 Jan 2005 was a Saturday. I remember going with Carolin and the boys to Wymondham for a walk near the river, followed by coffee and breakfast. Joshua was just less than a year old and asleep in the push chair, Samuel was 2 1/2. It was a pleasant, sunny winter's day with some frost lingering. Samuel and I were equally delighted to see 50019 meander over the crossing, on a non-running day, at Wymondham Abbey, before coming to a stop while a crew got down to do some work or other trackside. I have another picture of Samuel running towards me from the train, full of excitement.

After enjoying the photo series in OneDrive, I decided to see if my somewhat more advanced editing skills, as compared to nineteen years ago, could achieve anything with it in Lightroom. I am moderately satisfied with this version, where I have adjusted the colour tone slightly and the levels across highlights, shadows and exposure. I have started to make more use of Lightroom's Texture features too.

At this time, I was using a Fujifilm S602 zoom. It was more digicam than DSLR and shot JPEG, so although I had archived this as a DNG file originally, the editing flexibility is minimal. Hence, almost nothing could be done about the overexposed sky without introducing a significant amount of artefact.

In our time living in Norfolk, we took a number of trips on the Mid-Norfolk, although only when they ran steam hauled services. It is a lovely heritage railway that seems to have come out of the other side of COVID reasonably well, as far as I can deduce online.

The sunset backdrop makes a perfect photo op to catch an eastbound BNSF train as it sits idle between Rochelle and Steward, Illinois. Gotta love the country for big views like this :-)

Two of ND&W's GP16's and a ex Gettysburg GP9 sit idled in the yard at Defiance, OH with a short train waiting to be interchanged with CSX. They may not have the capital to keep up appearances, but they do have a neat looking roster.

Spotted Shag/Parekareka weathering a bout of summer rain on the docks at Oamaru, NZ. These birds are endemic to New Zealand and form large flocks up of up to 2,000 individuals on spits, beaches, and headlands such as this one. These individuals are showing their non-breeding colours but when breeding season rolls around, their facials turn green and they develop two mohawk-like crests on their heads which I find rather amusing.

I got my new camera the other day and I'm really loving it. The day was whatever, but I had taking pictures with my new camera to look forward to, which made it a little better.

The River Idle flows serene through Kings Park, Retford, North Nottinghamshire.

Whilst waiting for the sun to fall behind the trees in order to get the photo, I had to endure a tirade of Abuse from students (loose term) making their way through the park from Retford Oaks School. A great reflection of modern education and parenting skills.
