I visited this awesome old structure in the ghost town of White Knob while on a tour put on in conjunction with Idaho Archaeology & Historic Preservation Month. The tour was led by the Mayor of nearby Mackay Idaho, Wayne Olsen.
This is the Headhouse where the ore was brought from the mine and readied to go down the hill to Mackay.
This is the awesome view from the cinder mound in Idaho's Craters of the Moon NPS.

Well, I'm back in snowy and cold Idaho. I must say that while the winter may not be as pleasant as in sunny California, I am grateful for the variety and unique beauty of nature in all seasons of the year!

Sunset south of Idaho Falls - HDR. The sky was so beautiful this evening I had to drive around south of Idaho Falls in search of a foreground element. This canal would have to do!

It was a beautiful morning along this section of the Snake River, north of Idaho Falls. The water was unusually still and the cloud formation very interesting.

It's hard to think spring around here without the anticipation of the Canada Goose goslings. They are so cute with all that yellow fuzz. Here is mom with the babies tucked safely underneath her feathers. One baby wants to check out the world.
It's been cool here in Idaho Falls but we "finally" got some welcome snow earlier this week. This is one of my favorite views as the partially frozen Snake River winds it's way through the lava rock falls.

During the morning shoot of our most recent HDR Workshop we ventured down to the falls in Idaho Falls. Only a trickle was flowing where there is usually a torrent. This exposed the interesting lava rock usually covered by the Snake River. I felt a bit like we were photographing tide pools on the beach!

These ducks were sitting on the rock for a while in a rushing stream before they hopped off into the whitewater and floated down. It reminded me of some extreme whitewater rafting

The unsettled weather in the area recently has produced some amazing sunrises. This morning I got up a bit late and had to high-tail it up to near by Market Lake to catch a glimpse to this beautiful sunrise.

I composed this photograph while visiting the City of Idaho Falls. It is of the Snake River as it courses through the City and down a man-made waterfall near the City's centre. The City's lovely Mormon Temple dominates its skyline , but is scarcely visible in the background.
What became Idaho Falls was the site of Taylor’s Crossing on the Montana Trail which was a timber frame bridge built across the Snake River. The 1865 bridge was built by Matt Taylor who was a Montana Trail freighter who built a toll bridge across a narrow black basaltic gorge of the river that succeeded a ferry seven miles upstream by several years.
Prior to a HDR workshop I was conducting this morning, we had a photo shoot in Idaho Falls along the Snake River. We all had cold hands and feet but warm hearts as we witnessed the beautiful morning light flow across the area!
Thanks to all who participated and made it a fun and enjoyable event. Thanks to Chris Balmer and Perfect Light camera store for hosting the workshop!

Currents
eyes under wing...
feathers ruffle...
to stand still...
while currents...
batter a reflection.
a witness...
stands also...
not hiding...
but waiting...
on a worn path.
both in flows...
grander then choice...
soon to part...
with wings...
or feet...

This vertorama was taken using a Tilt-Shift lens. Two 5xp hdr series were obtained with the lens shifted up and then down. The hdr images were processed in Photomatix and the resultant images were combined in Photoshop using "Photomerge."

Seeing
A windy morning by a lake,
I walk.
A worn rosary,
fumbles between fingers.
A grandmother speaks of the wind,
child in hand,
grace in black,
Christ appears.
Something deep…
very deep…trust the Psalmist...
“Since my mother’s womb
you have been my strength”
