This is a close-up of a little frozen foot tall waterfall. I thought it looked like a little ice forest as the icicles look a bit like tree trunks here.
I hope everyone enjoys this image! :D
We have been getting some warm Jan temps and rain that has defrosted some of the waterfalls. I liked this one because there was still a lot of ice and a nice flow of water over it.

What do you think !?
This is a most peculiar place, where ice falls have formed inside a train tunnel. And my friend Tomás from @livetravelingspain climbing, despite being a few meters, the ice was brittle and dangerous.
Photo quite difficult to execute, because Tomas could not hold exposures of 10 or 15s and I did not have time to illuminate the entire tunnel in a few seconds.
We continue with the challenge #unafotoaldia

With cold temps once again descending on the Chicago area as February begins, the waterfalls of Starved Rock may once again look like this. In 2014, there were icefalls in every canyon for the first time in over 20 years. This is what LaSalle Canyon looked like after the second polar vortex once again plunged most of the Midwest and Northeast into sub-zero temps.

We saw these 2 persons climbing this frozen waterfall in Switzerland, near the Ofenpass. No guts no Glory!
Una de les cascades més interessants, fotogrà ficament parlant, d’aquà Andorra. A l’hivern és interessant quan hi ha neu i es gela parcialment perquè aconsegueixes unes formes i lÃnies interessants.

Ogwen Falls still pushing through the ice in Snowdonia National Park.
Brilliant night shooting with one of the top landscape photographers in North Wales, Andy Wilson.
I thought I was alone on the mountain, until I saw a flashlight flashing! At first I thought it was an SOS, so naturally I grabbed the LED Lenser X21 and lit up the mountainside to see what was going on. Funnily enough I then saw some red LED's flashing, and knew that it had to be Andy. After calling out (hoping it was him, otherwise i'd get a very strange reply/look), he gathered who I was after he saw my light painting gadgets :)
Whilst i've got your attention! Does anybody else own a D7000? If so, do you get an above average amount of digital noise on LOW iso's (as well as high)? I've noticed even at ISO 100, i'm getting a disturbing amount of grain/noise. Despite being perfectly exposed without the need to adjust any sliders in LightRoom etc, I notice when I zoom to 100% it's very noisy. Much more so than my old D90!

I took this yesterday at Starved Rock State Park. The waterfall was flowing, as you can see the majority was still frozen.

These were taken during the recent cold snap January 2014 off of River Road that runs between Townsend and Gatlinburg TN. I haven't seen this area frozen up like this since December 1983. I was almost 19 and did't yet own a camera at that time. Two years later I got the Chinon CP7m! I'm certain it has frozen up like this at other times but did't drive up to see it... LOL! Marie and I had a lot of fun looking at the ice that day and I even ran into an old friend and band mate from from the late 80s-early 90s I hadn't seen in a long time. He was out taking photos too using a very nice Nikon D700.
This photo was taken at Matthiessen State Park in north central Illinois. The ice was starting to melt so the waterfall was a combination of ice and water running.
-15 at Night, around -5°C at Day, that for over a week, that transfroms even fast running water in bizar figures.

Borer's Falls had ice extending the full height. I assume that the water was flowing inside this ice structure as there was water flowing in the creek. An ice cave had formed behind the frozen waterfall.
One of my 25 visits to Borer's Falls over two decades.

There are several of these ice waterfalls in the Crystal Ice Cave. The cave has several floors and water drips down from floor to floor creating these effects.
