Athabasca Glacier - Jasper National Park, Alberta

Jasper National Park, Canada

Looking south at this most impressive drive as seen from the Big Hill above the Big Bend.

Cirrus mountain in the distance. One literally needs a sunroof when driving thru here as the peaks are right on top of you.

Have a great weekend!

A b/w rendition of an earlier color shot of a typical view when driving Alberta's spectacular Icefields Parkway. Most beautiful drive I've been blessed to enjoy numerous times.

Here I'm driving north towards Dolomite and Watermelon peaks.

As always, your visits, comments, faves and suggestions are appreciated!

Here we have a view looking northwest at Mount Athabasca (of the famous glacier) and Hilda Peak.

A closer look in comments.

Shot of the Icefields Parkway in Alberta Canada leading into mountainous terrain. Actually, the whole 230 km parkway from Lake Louise to Jasper was basically a continuous ride through beautiful mountain scenery. Most scenic ride I have ever been on!

Going back and working through some old re-edits and found this pleasing composition. Switched it to black and white and played with the highlights to really get the drama of the scene on that rainy day.

The Columbia Icefield is located in the Canadian Rockies along the Continental Divide.

Beautiful spring day at Columbia Icefield. Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada.

An amazing view from the Columbia Icefield Glaicer.

The receding glacier was once twice the size. It’s just one more example of our warming planet. It creates its own weather which is amazing.

Taken on today's early and long adventure.

On my way back from Abraham Lake... This stretch of highway called out to me. This is right before Num Ti Jah and The Bow Lake turn off.

The Columbia Icefield is located in the Canadian Rockies astride the Continental Divide along the border of British Columbia and Alberta, Canada, the ice field lies partly in the northwestern tip of Banff National Park and partly in the southern end of Jasper National Park. It is about 325 square kilometres (125 sq mi) in area, 100 metres (330 ft) to 365 metres (1,198 ft) in depth and receives up to 7 metres (280 in) of snowfall per year

Considered one of the most beautiful drives in the world, the Icefields Parkway (or Alberta Highway 93), connecting Banff with Jasper in Alberta, Canada, is 232 kilometres of visual splendour parallel to the Continental Divide.

Incredible, stark, stunning Tilicho icefields. One needs to cross a 45min walk through these icefields (~5000m alt) in winter before reaching the Tilicho lake.

Moody morning there in the cold below the Columbia Icefield.

Best quote of the day by Clint Eastwood -- "PANTA.REI On the left in the front you have Athabasca, with The Silverhorn in the middle, and to the right you have Andromeda. All are over 3300m high!" ~Mick

On the way to Columbia Icefield...

The splendour of the Icefields Parkway (Hwy 93) can hardly be overstated: a 230-kilometre road from Lake Louise to Jasper through the heart of the Rockies, it ranks as one of the world's ultimate drives. Its unending succession of huge peaks, immense glaciers, iridescent lakes, wild-flower meadows, wildlife and forests - capped by the stark grandeur of the Columbia Icefield - is absolutely overwhelming.

Alternative title "She came in through the bathroom window ... " It's a macro photo of a very small portion of the bathroom window after a particularly cold night (-38C). We are replacing the window in the Spring. I had so much fun photographing the various frost patterns that I'm thinking we shouldn't replace the window? :)

Jökulsárlón glacial lake, between Höfn and Skaftafell, Iceland.

Capture made on a moody morning there at the Columbia Icefield with the milky chalky looking flow coming down off the glacier and making its way along this rocky river shore.

A moody blue hour view there before sunrise while there in Alberta, Canada ... the Columbia Icefield area was amazing to see. Also not another soul there at this hour ;)

Just loved the chalky looking water there in the lake ... kind of spooky in the early light.

View over the amazing Icefields Parkway. One of the wolds most famous streets. Its beautiful.

Easily one of the best drives anywhere.

The Columbia Icefield can be seen in the middle right of this photo. What is also clearly visible, and quite amazing, is the moraine (sand colour material running through the middle of the image starting at the left) which shows the ancient depth of the glacial ice.
