I have earlier versions of these pictures here on Flickr, but they're low-resolution. I don't know why I didn't post the hi-res versions.

This is our new IBM server rack. Its pretty cool. We gonna be filling this with those X336 servers I have showed off already.

"These sorters use a metal brush to detect the position of the hole in the column being sorted. When the brush contacts a metal roller or bar through the hole, it closes an electrical circuit that causes an electromagnet to direct the card into one of 13 chutes leading to the appropriate bin. The type 83 could process 1000 cards per minute--almost 17 per second."

IBM established a facility in Greenock in 1951, at first in temporary accommodation in the Battery Park, then in Spango Valley. Through time various mainframes were manufactured in Greenock in addtion to peripherals. Greenock was chosen as one of the major worldwide IBM PC manufacturing facilities in the early 80s and grew massively during the PC boom.

The office and manufacturing buildings are now derelict.
