The IAC headquarters designed by Frank Gehry backed by New York City's Empire State Building. The New York Times said the building was a "much-needed touch of lightness to the Manhattan skyline" noting also that "these easy, fluid forms are a marked departure from the complex, fragmented structures of [Gehry's] youth." The High Line is a park on a disused spur of the West Side Line. The elevated railway opened in 1934, as part of a scheme to raise the tracks up above street level. Use of the railways declined from the 1960s onwards, with the last train running in 1980. The line fell into disrepair, with grasses, shrubs and trees growing on parts of the tracks.
Following success from campaigns from 1999 onwards, the line was officially designated a park, with construction beginning 2006 and officially opening in 2009.
The first-ever Iowa Alliance Conference track and field meet was held on Thursday, May 4, 2023. All 11 member schools came together at the meets, with the boys competition hosted by Waterloo East and the girls meet held at Ames High School. We went to Ames to share some photos of the Scarlets, Huskies, Rails, Polar Bears and Roughriders in competition. Congratulations to Roosevelt on winning both the boys and girls southern diversion titles.
