ODT - THINGS THAT START WITH THE LETTER I - Imaginarium

Familiar with the Tiny Tower iOS/Android game? This is it in real life! It's Hong Kong's iSQUARE building.

This old leather suitcase travelled around the world with its previous owner but ended up in our stores as decoration. I've seen it in 3 different stores in different occasions already, I don't know why but I feel sad seeing it being used that way.

From what I gathered, this suitcase belonged to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Henninger who came from Santa Rosa California and went on board with the ocean liner Gripsholm on 17th Sep 1957 in Gothenburg, a few months after the ship's maiden voyage from Copenhagen to U.S.A.

Mr. and Mrs. Henninger stayed in room 89 on main deck, it took them 8 days to travel from Gothenburg non-stop to New York arriving on 25th Sep 1975. They had probably been to Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Manila as evident from the hotel stickers.

I literally went to Mr. and Mrs. Henninger's house, well through Google Map you know. You gotta be amazed how you can fly over to a particular spot on earth in no time. I spent the rest of tonight flying over my favorite places in Winnipeg, it is where I got my degree and spent a few wonderful years in libraries and parks.

Well, one leather suitcase got me into learning about ocean liners and Mr. and Mrs. Henninger's lives. I also had a great time flying earth reminiscing life in Canada. At the same time, posting on this blog leaves my identity trail on the net perhaps someday somebody will find out a lot more about me than what I could find out about Mr. and Mrs. Henninger. They left their trail on objects, we leave our trail on the net.

Note that almost all of the buses running on Nathan Road are double-deckers... most of them are the Alexander Dennis Enviro 500 model.

There is a faint reflection of a Starbucks® logo over on the right - again I remind viewers that I don't travel with a polarizing filter... (and I had bought this lens on this trip, anyway...)

BTW, polarizers don't work well with 24mm and under lenses for darkening the sky (not that that would have changed anything for this shot...) as the polarization of the sky isn't consistent enough for the wide angle of the sky a 24 or shorter would take in...

Also at the Canon iSQUARE Hong Kong Showroom are these photo equipment demos which doubles as observation decks for visitors.

Tsim Sha Tsui, where the showroom is located at, is one of the prime location for tourists in Hong Kong. By placing these super telephoto L lenses on EOS-1 bodies, these demo setups go beyond the function of being a simple sales tool and do double-duty as observation decks for the casual visitors.

Although you can see only one of such setup here, the showroom in fact has six of these at this corner, showcasing all the crown jewels of the Canon EF Ls including the EF 400mm

f/2.8L IS II USM (pictured), EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM, etc. These lenses all retails for 10k+ USD so if you ever want to play with these toys without breaking the bank, this is the candy shop for you to visit.

This is by far the most ingenious photography showroom display I have ever seen. Crazyisgood. SML Love.

That's a mirror self-portrait, out of focus, as I'm focused on the mirrored wall... yes, there's lots of gunk on the negative, which I didn't bother to spot out...
