My tribute to and wish for the Parisians
When I saw this shot the atrocity had not occurred. My thought was that this was America in a nutshell - freedom and capitalism with our colors to boot. Now I want to dedicate it to France.

The material is balsa wood, soft and easy to carve but surprisingly rigid.
The piece shown is the violin back.
From here finer tools will be used to carve the wood before it gets sanded and finished

Crater Lake National Park is a United States National Park located in southern Oregon. Established in 1902, Crater Lake National Park is the fifth oldest national park in the United States and the only one in the state of Oregon. Its depth of 1,943 feet (592 meters) makes it the deepest lake in the United States, and the ninth deepest in the world. Its fresh water is some of the clearest found anywhere in the world. The interaction of people with this place is traceable at least as far back as the eruption of Mount Mazama. Source: Wikipedia & NPS.gov

These two trees are very hard to pass by without taking a photograph (there are loads on my stream) but in the weather on Sunday evening I was tempted to stay in the car. It was unpleasently cold and you can see the hail and snow blowing through the photo.
