London, England, 1792 and disgraced former adviser to King George III, Thomas Stewart, is on the run. Knowing he has only hours before the authorities catch up with him, he unlocks the door to his secret workshop and attempts to complete the Great Experiment. The dream: to create the 'Philosopher's Stone', an alchemical device so powerful it can transmute base elements into pure gold... The hypothosis: that the right combination of light, focused through a crystal sphere, onto a receptive mineral specimen would yield untold power and riches. The problem: someone had been talking, and the authorities wanted the power for themselves. The solution: flight, hopefully taking the finished Stone with him, but had The Experiment worked? Would he be able to get away? Where would he go? ................................................. Composing this shot was almost as hard as making a Philosopher's Stone!! An awful lot of work has gone into preparing the little potion bottles, and into getting the lighting and composition right. All the wind last night killed the electricity supply — a good excuse to break out the hurricane lamps and candles! Luckily the camera still had enough power to run off a few shots before I got to eat my supper! Lit mostly with the candle and hurricane lamp, I had to break out the off-camera flash for a bit of extra light — the neighbours probably thought I was letting off indoor fireworks! More baking fun this wild and windy autumn afternoon. Two different sizes of cupcake and two-tone chocolate and coffee icings. Decided to colour tone with a complementary blend of pink rosebuds and azure espresso cups to contrast with the rich luscious browns of the chocolate.
