is how it felt at the Salmon Street Springs, Portland, Oregon on this late Spring afternoon. As the sun slid into the West, shade from the building across the street made a beautiful dark backdrop for the fountain; which is what thought I had photographed until a couple of days later when I downloaded the image and found two children wonderfully at play in the fountain... i4s12471 - Happy Sliders Sunday!

I was feeling very ambivalent about photographing tulips this year, but thanks to an invite from Sarah I found myself at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm at 5:45AM this morning, Thanks Sarah! Although the sunrise fizzled out there was some nice structure to the clouds overhead and plenty of tulips to enjoy. Always looking for a different spin on tulip photography I thought I'd try some iPhone panoramas. The main challenges were getting the camera tripod low enough between the plants and keeping myself out of the shot while rotating the camera without damaging any plants or blooms. An unexpected surprise was that with the olloclip fisheye on the iPhone I was able to get a panorama that goes well past 360º. Best/largest when viewed fullscreen in the TulipSpinBox. i4s3486

The invasive Purple Loosestrife (see 8th comment below) is ablaze right now, especially horrifyingly pretty when backlit in the evening from trail below the cliffs. Be sure to check out Redfishingboat (Mick O)'s beautiful photo from the same location. PDXGone 2016 they have treated the area with bugs that feed on this invasive plant. i4s5491

When the blinds of the bottom tier are completely closed - the usual mode - the reflection is much lighter/weaker see e.g. the vertical stripes along the right and left edges. NB10059

Since last week they've put up three more arch segments for Span 3 and off loaded the rest of the segments from the barge to the work pier. Note also how the river - which is running 3 to 4 feet higher than last week - has changed from the nice contrasting blue to brown.

Installing all three pairs of arches that will support Spans 3-5 of the bridge will take about four months, with work generally progressing from West to East. Follow the progress at Sellwood Bridge website and photos in the Sellwood Bridge flickr group where you will also find tips on photographing the bridge. i4s10710

After years of seeing many beautiful photos of the cherry trees at Westmoreland Park I finally made a visit. Although the cherries were well past peak and looking very dingy, the visit got me to really appreciate the photos I've seen from there since this park is worlds prettier in those photos than in person; e.g. the beautiful reflecting pond above, is in reality a completely opaque murky dark green that you wouldn't want to dip your toe in, surrounded by pathways so covered in goose and duck shit that you have to constantly watch where you step. Still at the right time of day, with the right light, right kind of sky to reflect off the water, and the right amount of post processing lipstick there are photos to be found there. i4s11434 - Happy Sliders Sunday!

Each year this tree by the Hawthorne Bridge bursts into full bloom a good two to three weeks ahead of the other trees along the river downtown which are all still just covered with tight buds. And on this recent very fine sunny day the upper 50s temps made it feel like Spring too. i4s8629 - Happy Sliders Sunday!

Vertigo carnival ride, Rose Festival City Fair, Portland, Oregon 2015. David Gagnon has added video processing and two more scan directions to his very fun to explore slit-scan ScanCamera iOs app; this allows you to try out different silt-scan parameters and directions on the same video/event. Above 5 different scans of the same iPhone video have been combined using Lighter Color Layer Mode with some additional Photoshop and NikColorEfex sliding to bring out more color / detail. See first comment below for an earlier slit-scan and long exposure images of this fun to photograph carnival ride. i4s12358,59,66,67,68 - Happy Sliders Sunday!

The launch of the new Enviro 200 MMC buses for TrentBarton's i4 route to Sandiacre and Derby, in Old Market Square, Nottingham.

As the train contined to speedup its colors light shifting towards the blue, with passengers inside the train desperately trying to call for help, a feeling of utter helplessness overcame me when I saw the message "Radio Help" somehow put on the outside of the train, but with no indication of whom to radio or how… Two eight shot AvgNiteCam multiple exposures (see first comment below) hand stitched/masked together. i4s7113,14 - Happy Sliders Sunday!

Split Ring by Clement Meadmore Portland Art Museum Portland OR NB47530

On my way down to meet Jim to see the Rothko exhibit at the Portland Art Museum I got sidetracked by the view of the approaching storm from Vista Bridge. As it came in there was an ever changing display of crepuscular rays in the direction of the sun, lightning, crackling thunder and rainbows; never did make it to the museum before it closed. When the rain reached the bridge I switched to the iPhone whose smaller lens was much less likely to be affected by raindrops. A description of what causes these spokes inside the rainbow can be found on the old.atoptics.co.uk/rainbows/wheel.htm. Try the view from the Rainbow Room. i4s1313,14e4K

This is a reupload of a photo I took immediately prior to the Red Arrow being renewed with Plaxton Elites in autumn 2015, less cropped than the original although the angle wasn’t brilliant to begin with. It was taken round an NCT Omnidekka which can be seen reflected in the coach side windows.

Before the standardisation brought by the Elites, the RA existed on a mixed diet of 2010 Irizar i4s and these older Irizar Inter-Centuries, plus a B10M Premiere which was presumably a spare. I’m not sure how the Red Arrow managed to only get a few 2010 coaches but assume the removal of the Chesterfield leg must’ve had something to do with it.

While the B10M was done up to somewhat resemble the Irizar i4s, the main fleet of 04 plate Scania K94s were unique in having this livery with the diagonal fading stripes along the sides. I always found them quite interesting looking mid-size coaches and liked the Irizar logo of the reclining seat on the back!
