ift.tt/xQqzmGc Feline Frights When Cats

Tremble with PainAs any cat

lover knows our feline friends

are notorious for their

independence and stoicism

Theyre not ones to show

emotions readily often keeping

their feelings hidden behind a

mask of calm composure But

sometimes despite their tough

exterior cats cant help but

reveal their vulnerabilityOne

such instance is when theyre

in extreme pain Like us humans

cats have a unique way of

expressing discomfort or

distress And one of the most

telling signs that a cat is

experiencing excruciating pain

is when it starts to tremble

or shiver uncontrollablyNow I

know what youre thinking Why

would a cat typically so

fearless and unflappable

suddenly become like a leaf in

an autumn gust Well my friends

let me tell you its because

even the most stoic of felines

has its limits When pain

becomes too much to bear their

usually calm demeanor gives

way to a visceral reactionAs

any veterinarian will attest

cats are masters of hiding

discomfort Theyll often mask

their pain with a range of

behaviors from lethargy to

anxiety or agitation But when

theyre in extreme pain think

abscesses wounds or serious

infections their body

language takes on a whole new

tone Their muscles start to

twitch and quiver much like

our own bodies might respond

to intense fear or anxietyNow

Im not saying that every time

your cat starts shivering its

because of severe pain

although it could be Other

factors can contribute to this

reaction such as1 Fear Cats

are prey animals after all

When they sense danger or feel

threatened their natural

response is to freeze but in

extreme cases this fear can

manifest as trembling2

Hypothermia Just like humans

cats can get chilly when the

temperature drops If your cats

environment is too cold it

might shiver to regulate its

body heat3 Medical conditions

Certain medical issues such as

hyperthyroidism or chronic

pain can cause muscle tremors

in catsSo how do you know if

your cats trembling is a sign

of extreme pain Trust your

instincts If youve ruled out

the above factors and still

suspect that your cat is

experiencing discomfort its

time to get them checked out

by a veterinarian A thorough

examination will help identify

any underlying issues allowing

your vet to prescribe the

necessary treatmentIn

conclusion when cats tremble

or shiver its not just a cute

adorable reaction it can be a

sign of intense pain As cat

parents we need to stay

vigilant and keep an eye out

for these subtle changes in

our feline friends behavior By

recognizing the signs of

extreme pain and seeking

medical attention when

necessary we can help ensure

our cats live long happy and

healthy livesAnd remember my

fellow feline enthusiasts its

always better to err on the

side of caution when it comes

to your cats health So dont

hesitate to consult with a

veterinarian if youre unsure

about anything your cat will

thank you www.youtube.com/watch?v=omW1yiRiGx8

We're very sad to report that Zuzu passed away late Sunday night. She had been doing really well just the day before, eating tons and being social and friendly just like she was on the block. But she had terrible diarrhea which was dehydrating her, so we gave her fluids and a B12 shot. The fluids helped but her poop wasn't improving. Sunday she seemed off. She didn't eat nearly as much and was less social, sleeping in her cubby or on the floor. We checked on her regularly, offering different foods to try to keep her eating. But her appetite was definitely not where it had been. Still we figured we could get it all sorted at the vet the next day. But when we checked around 10pm she was already gone. We really thought we had more time.

We had sent out blood and fecal samples for testing and finally got the results yesterday. As expected she had severe kidney disease and hyperthyroidism, as well as other markers that put her firmly in the 'not good' category (ironically, she tested negative for FIV and FeLV.) If we had gotten to her sooner there's a chance we could have mitigated these issues but it's impossible to know for sure.

We're sorry her story is ending so soon, we really thought we could give her the retirement she deserved. She touched many people's lives. The photos here are just a few we've collected from her caretakers and the people we worked with to round her up. If you have any pictures of Zuzu please DM to us, we'd love to share them here.

Although hyperthyroidism can occur in younger cats, it is primarily a disease of middle-aged and senior cats.

Clients will report that their cat is always hungry despite the fact that they are losing weight.

Now with hyperthyroidism, CRF, anaemia, jaundice, blindness and a nosebleed, Charlie rests in his basket. It is New Years' Eve. Soon he would be held by Feef all night long, only to wake with a nosebleed.

Rushed to hospital and assisted by the dear JIll Stapley and honourable pal Doogie Mortenson, Charlie would leave this mortal coil, New Years Day 2011, 2:15pm.

A more reliable test in felines to determine hyperthyroidism, but there are factors that can affect the serum concentrations.

Mainly hemoglobin check up is the most important for anemia. It provides the complete information about the amount of hemoglobin in blood.

Marley is my older cat patient. She is being treated for hyperthyroidism and is going really well. 22 years and still going well.

I found out today that my cat Monroe, 13, has hyperthyroidism. It's caused by a tumor on the thyroid. There are different treatments (i.e.- medication, surgery etc); the most reliable, or effective, is radiation treatment. I have been reading about the side effect occurance rates, recovery times... but haven't found anything about the stress or hardship of the treatment during or in the 10-14 day quarantine recovery period.

This is Willow in her "fluffier" days before she got hyperthyroidism and lost weight.

July 20th 2011 170 of 365

It was Ashes' turn to come to work with me. At 16 years old, with hyperthyroidism, I wanted to check out his bloodwork and get a physical. He has lost some weight. Sent out the blood to the lab, so no results yet. He's my old man...he and I have been through a lot together. Hope to keep him happy & healthy as long as I can.

She is second oldest, and has endured many illnesses. She is diabetic, hyperthyroid and has dementia. When she looks up at me and rubs against me, I know she loves me.

Healthcare specialists schedule a test for the thyroid to assess the working efficiency of the thyroid gland. The test also helps to diagnose the factors behind hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is a situation that results out of too much production of the thyroid gland. Hypothyroidism, in contrast, is a condition when there is a lack of the production of this gland. In both situations, only a Thyroid Test Morristown can reveal accurate results, and henceforth the treatment is possible.

The thyroid gland is a tiny gland near the bottom of the neck. This gland influences the functioning of the body’s most vital organs, including the brain, heart, liver, kidneys, as well as skin. The thyroid’s principal function is to produce hormones such as triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), which are released into the bloodstream and delivered to all tissues in our body.

Polly started meds for hyperthyroidism. She takes them crushed up in a little softened butter or sour cream, but she has to be separated and supervised or the other cat will steal her "treat."

Size of head slightly exaggerated, but he had advancing (later cured) hyperthyroidism at the time.

Hyperthyroidism is one of the most common diseases that occurs when the thyroid gland is overactive. For more goo.gl/Xk72MQ
