while exploring the streets of key west I took this shot. I found the texture and untidy look of brick wall behind made for an interesting background to this hydrant which we don't have in the UK.
Checking for the dogs who came before her.
A few days later I was walking my dog across the street and a huge male Rottweiler was using the fire hydrant and appeared to be on a long strap with his owner. Then for some reason the man lost control of the dog and he started across the street towards us. My dog was in full protection mode and was barking and getting a little too worked up. At that point the Rottweiler almost got hit by a car, right at the time when his owner caught up with him and grabbed him. I am glad the dog and owner weren't hit, and I am also glad we managed to avoid a run-in with a dog whose breed tends to be aggressive. I know one person who owns Rottweilers, and one of them ate the foot off her goat when the goat stuck a foot through the fence. There's something to say about having your dog on a leash and having a collar that works, not just a strap around the dog's neck. End of rant.
Walking along river Saar, I noticed this old hydrant in front of an old wall. The writing "Peaze" catched my view. I like the nice bokeh and the calm, automun colors. It's a peazeful picture.

A fire hydrant in downtown Galesburg made by the Waterous Company, made in St. Paul, Minnesota. I haven't seen a hydrant in these colors before.

Canada Valve fire hydrant, Ottawa.
As I was peering down at this hydrant, snapping away, a woman came up and asked me in a worried tone what was wrong with it. She thought I was a city worker, taking photos of hydrant problems. She lost interest once she found out I was just an oddball who likes rust and old paint.
Later I wished I'd made up some ominous-sounding hydrant affliction, like Nut Protector Distress. Or Dystopic Flange Collapse.
