I came across two coyotes, that I thought were initially playing, but it was more sinister than that. The younger smaller one was dispatching the older, off its territory.

many a cloak it dare's to where
mental or physical it just doesn't care
everyone has a hunger to share
a soul, with the lust,
for any crumb or crust
a thirst so deep
as to make us keep
our destiny
with the fork in the road
or the gate to chose
will we win or will we lose.
it's your choice to make
so no matter what it takes
pick the formula worth eating
stop beating
yourself to death.
Knut Hamsun: Sult | Hunger (1890)
“Knut Hamsun’s writing is magical, his sentences are glowing, he could write about anything and make it alive.” —Karl Ove Knausgaard, The New York Times Book Review
“The whole modern school of fiction in the twentieth century stems from Hamsun.” —Isaac Bashevis Singer
With this stylistically radical, revolutionary masterpiece the 30-year-old Knut Hamsun made his literary breakthrough. Absolutely worth reading - but only in the original version, as the author, who became increasingly reactionary and fascist in his old age, bowdlerized and spoiled his work in later versions.
