ARTIST STATEMENT

ELOY JIMENEZ “El Mixteco”

“When an art historian was preparing a lecture for a symposium on art and sexuality, he asked his friend Picasso where he drew the line between these two concepts. The painter replied: They the same thing, because art can only be erotic.” (Widmaier 2005)

In my sensitivity art is only erotic.

In the Mixtec region of Oaxaca, where I am from, where my roots begin, the culture is flooded with ideologies related to sex.

I am deeply influenced by my culture and my country. The codex (ancient Pre Columbian pictographs) contain representations of sexuality, none of which are considered immoral, to them it is part of life. Their Gods, their history, were all represented in this aspect.

Sexuality is, part of self not exclusive to a group or a certain culture.

In addition to my culture, I am also influenced by many important artists. Schield, Klimt, Picasso, Kokoschka and Toledo all work with erotic imagery. My attention was based primarily how they conveyed eroticism and sexuality. Each artist represented their own erotic style based on the premise of love, passion, emotion, sensuality and sexuality. In some cases they walked a thin line between eroticism and pornography.

I perceive that eroticism goes beyond the normal standards of love, passion, sex, and emotions. I discern that art is intertwined with pornography, and eroticism, and that they are inherent to each other. If one threatens to separate these concepts it will only justify societies judgments on what is moral and what is immoral.

My art work is more than a simple thematic representation; it is a procedure, a contemplative introspective arrangement. I was able to produce textural aspects that are not typically found with other traditional painting techniques on paper. I utilize the ancient Mixtec use of grana Cochinilla (ground Coachanil bug) in a new way.

I focused on two notions: the concept of diverse human sexuality and the concept of animal sexuality. Both have the same objective: to preserve the species. Only the humans have the ability to understand and recognize the sexual act as a pleasure.

My style is individual and distinctive; I call myself as an erotic artist. I focus on primitive conceptions in a contemporary society. For some pornography or eroticism is an attack on moral values, however, the erotic exist, unbeknownst to most, in the everyday.

Nice bracelet, though.

Today's story and sketch by me #1506, as you can see I was out testing new high speed Huarache Sandals for my favorite all terrain quadruped Clyde. We were crossing the Budahunga Dry Lake, doing about 55 miles an hour, when Clyde began slowing down, my first thought was we were having a footwear malfunction, when I saw Clyde, looking into the horizon, watching a round cage apparatus falling from the sky. Well Clyde hit high gear, I could barely hold on when we hit 65 miles per hour. The apparatus on closer inspection is some type of Gondola. With a terrified pedestrian inside, the pedestrian it turns out was at a county fair in Costa Mesa California, riding in this Ariel gondola, when a deep purple swamp gas dimension portal, engulfed it, pulled it from the overhead cables, sent it tumbling through multiple dimensions before dropping the pedestrian named Spencer, where you see him up in a undecidious pine, he will be very confused, when he learns he is in an unknown dimension, on a Tropical Volcanic Planet we call Budahunga. The Huichols are a hearty and enduring people numbering about 18,000, most of which live in the Jalisco and Nayarit, two rugged and mountainous states in North Central Mexico.

They are descendents of the Aztecs and are related to their Uto-Aztecan speaking cousin, the Hopi of Arizona. They are representatives of a pre-Columbian shamanic tradition which is still functioning according to the ceremonies of their remote past. Having withstood the Spanish Invasion, they are still striving to keep their culture alive and viable, despite the ever increasing physical and cultural encroachment of their Mexican neighbors.
