So why is this tree Famous?
Tom Lowe, overall winner of the 2010 Astronomy Photographer of the Year contest has shot this tree a LOT. You can see why. Pre-order his timelapse movie for an extra treat! I can't wait for my copy!
I took this photo prior to the "Dark of the Moon Night Photography Workshop" sponsored by the Point Reyes National Seashore Association (PRNSA). We were based at Crooked Creek Research Station - a fantastic spot to be with 3 meals a day expertly prepared by Tim. We're eager to do it again next year - already have the dates nailed down (as much as they can be this far in advance!).

This is us sleeping under the stars at Patriarch Grove, Ancient Bristlecone Forest on the peak night of the Perseid meteor shower while our timelapse cameras did all the hard work.

YIkes... explore noticed this one.... now I know explore is whacko.. lol Explore #348 26th May
Our homework for the Penrith flickr group this week was star trails. This is 637 shots, each 25secs at 1600 ISO. Over 4.75 hrs long. I let my camera go all night.. but the dew came in and the last several hundred shots before the battery went dead I deleted... they were rather milky..
This is the combination of the shots into a movie using PS5.. never used this program before.. sheez.. luckily there are a lot of tutorials on the web.. this was 30fps 640x480 pixels.. but I don't know what flickr has done to it... lol
This was a 1/2 moonlight night.. and the later shots also had the moonlight entering the lens on the top right.. Also a couple of clouds wandered through while I was slumbering.. but they actually added to the shot.. can be lucky.. the darkening frames at the end were due to the dew on the lens..
ISO 1600, 16-35mm lens @16mm, f/5.0, 25secs, tripod , jpeg
that red frame was me wandering around with a led torch.. I wiped the lens at this point,,
this is my first attempt at a movie using time lapse.. but I am kinda intrigued by this so I will try to do some more.. and I know it requires some music... next time okay.. :~}
Oh, if u have time, check out timescapes.org for some awesome movies for inspiration... simply incredible...
My assistant Dustin Kukuk took this photo in the middle of the night in freezing temps while we were out filming timlapse sequences for my debut film, "Southwest Light."

Still way out of league for Timescapes, but with some skyline and trees for contrast... :o)

Ainda totalmente fora do padrão Timescapes, mas com algum contorno de montanhas e árvores para um contraste... :o)

I'm working on a big 9-minute follow-up to "Learning to Fly", but it won't be ready till next summer. Meantime, here are some shots from my trip in August to California's White Mountains and Yosemite, all shot on the Canon 5D2.

I've already got my phsical copy of the Special Edition of Timescapes and it's so inspiring.
It really is a wonderful movie and after watching the "making of" and the "director commentary" I realize again what an innovator Tom Lowe is. It's also worth mentioning that this is the first consumer movie released in 4K resolution (if you don't know about 4K go here: reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57364224-221/what-is-4k-nex...)
In my spare time I dream about emulating some of his work and lately I've been trying to do a little bit more work with Time Lapse.
If you haven't already, at least take a look at the trailer for Timescapes (vimeo.com/33110953) or buy the movie (timescapes.org/)
I guess that is why they don't use compact cameras in Timescapes... :o)

Acho que é por isso que eles não usam câmeras compactas no Timescapes... :o)
