Midland Bank opposite Lloyds of London.. in London. I did think the Lloyds building was pretty cool when it was built and impressive to see. A few years later I did get to go on a visit inside.

The Jewel Changi Airport's HSBC Rain Vortex is the world's tallest indoor waterfall. It cascades down seven stories from the center of the Jewel, surrounded by a terraced forest setting.
HSBC Headquarters, the building I've loved since I was a kid. Some of its interesting features are the use of natural sunlight, zero internal supporting beams, the use of escalators instead of elevators connecting some floors, the two feng shui cannon shaped cranes on the roof pointing directly at Bank of China building, and the two bad ass looking lion statues named Stephen and Stitt waiting to eat your money.
I don't ever plan to bank there. The building's tite tho.
I've tried hard to find out some history on this building in Croydon, but have not been able to as yet.
This building was designed by John Douglas for the North & South Wales Bank and the Grosvenor Club in 1881-83. It is to this day an imposing structure in the heart of the City and bears many of the hallmarks of Douglas's designs. It is a listed building, Grade II.
The Hong Kong And Shanghai Bank Tower (formal name "HSBC Main Building") shot from Chater Garden. The smaller building to the left is the old Bank of China building (Straight from the cam - just a little cropped).

Posting a few photos from my Buffalo (Western New York state) trip back in 2017. Buffalo is about two hours from Toronto by car and a place where -- when the Canadian dollar is high relative to the U.S. dollar -- many Torontonians go to shop for things that are available in the U.S. but not in Canada. Despite that most Torontonians unfairly have very little respect for Buffalo. Well, you all know that I think very differently from most people. I think Buffalo has many hidden interesting things to see and do.

At first, the world was awash with promises for the future.
Seventy countries (two thirds of all global carbon emissions) had net-zero targets. Most people expressed concerns over climate change. But we’ve not made much progress since then. And 83% of our energy use is from fossil fuels. indeed, Britain is still using its dirtiest power plants to generate energy. When will we ever learn?
1 High Street, Stamford, Lincolnshire PE9
For a few moments after dinner, the sun came out and Stamford was dripping wet and sunny at the same time. But the sunny break was very brief, as heavy downpour returned once more! English weather is truly very unpredictable and crazy!
My wonderful friends have been emailing me bank photos to post. I've been procrastinating for months.
Many thanks to Ignas for taking and sending me this photo of the HSBC Bank UK branch in Chelmsford, Essex.

Prominent building on the Bund in Shanghai. Imposing piece of architecture that is one of the most famous on the Bund.
From Wikipedia:
The HSBC Building has been called "the most luxurious building from the Suez Canal to the Bering Strait".[1] The building has a floor area of 23,415 m², and was, at the time, the largest bank building in the Far East, and second largest in the world, after the Bank of Scotland building in Edinburgh.
The building exterior adopted a strict neo-classicist design, with a tripartite vertical and horizontal division. In the centre is a dome, the base decorated with a triangular structure in imitation of Greek temples. Below that are six Ionic columns penetrating from the second to the fourth storey. The main structure is five storeys, the central section seven storeys, with one and a half storey for the basement. The main structure has a steel lattice with brick filling, and a granite exterior.
The interior was luxuriously decorated, using materials such as marble and monel. The whole building was fitted with heating and air-conditioning. The main trading hall has four columns hewn from whole blocks of marble, which was at the time unique in Asia.
Behind the main building is a subsidiary building which houses bank offices, safes, and vaults.

The Central District of Hong Kong.
It is located on the north shore of Hong Kong Island, across Victoria Harbour from Tsim Sha Tsui, the southernmost point of Kowloon Peninsula. The area was the heart of Victoria City, although that name is rarely used today.
As the central business district of Hong Kong, it is the area where many multinational financial services corporations have their headquarters. Consulates general and consulates of many countries are also located in this area, as is Government Hill, the site of the government headquarters.
The area, with its proximity to Victoria Harbour, has served as the centre of trade and financial activities from the earliest days of the British colonial era in 1841, and continues to flourish and serve as the place of administration after the handover to China in 1997.
The British landed on Possession Point of Sheung Wan in 1841. They soon decided to build a city on the north coast of Hong Kong Island, and the present-day Central was chosen to house major military facilities and an administrative centre.
The area soon attracted both Westerners and Chinese to trade and live in the area, and a Canton Bazaar was built between Cochrane Street and Graham Street in 1842. The area was soon zoned for Westerners only, and the Chinese residents were restricted to Sheung Wan. The area was largely dominated by the presence of Victoria City. The popularity of this area would also boost the population of Hong Kong from 5,000 in 1841 to 24,000 in 1848.
In 1904, the Praya Reclamation Scheme added 59 acres of land to Central's waterfront. Many of the proposals came from Sir Paul Chater and James Johnstone Keswick, the founders of Hongkong Land. During the 1920s, Hong Kong was able to push far ahead economically, because of the cohesive collaboration between Central and all waterfront commerce.
The military structures survived until the 1980s. Only Flagstaff House remains as Museum of Tea Ware in Hong Kong Park. City Hall sat on the present premises of the HSBC Hong Kong headquarters. Hong Kong's first road, Queen's Road, passes through the area and the business centre continued to expand toward the shoreline as far as the reclaimed lands.
It has been the site of several major political protests. From October 2011 to September 2012, the Occupy Central movement against global economic inequality was based in front of the HSBC Main Building. Two years later in 2014, democratic activists initiated Occupy Central with Love and Peace, demanding universal suffrage for the election of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, eventually contributing to the Umbrella Revolution

When HSBC decided to rename its British operations, there were hopes (including from me) that they would revive the old Midland brand. No such luck, HSBC decided to rename its UK operations after months of discussion as HSBC UK. Silly huh?

Circa 1896. By Henry Hare for the Midland Bank. Ashlar. 3 storeys and attic. Semi-circular headed windows with beaded lights. Round headed doorway with bracketed canopy. Corner tower with shaped brackets and pilasters support a turret with octagonal roof. Dutch gables to Cornmarket Street.
Henry Thomas Hare was a British architect from Scarborough. He was articled to the Scarborough architect C A Bury but left after four years to complete his studies in Paris. He returned to London in 1878 to work as an assistant to the London architects King and Hill, and set up his own practice in London in 1891. Hare's trademark was including an etching or carving of a hare in every building he designed.
