Julia Ideson Building of the Houston Public Library. This stunning building, located at 550 McKinney St, Houston, TX 77002 (right next to City Hall), was the original location for the Houston Public Library. The library first opened in 1926 and was renamed in 1989 for Julia Bedford Ideson, the longtime Head Librarian of the Houston Public Libraries. Beautiful building for sure - and worth a stop when in Texas. Visited this historic library on July 18, 2017 - it is right next to the current central library for the HPL.

This drawing began as a mere anatomical study of Cthulhu's head, seeking to further follow the ambiguous descriptions of the character's author, H.P. Lovecraft (shapeless asymmetry, gelatinous consistency), moving away from the now topical representation of the entity as a overmuscled kaiju with an octopus for a head. It has ended up being a scene with a certain narrative. The composition suffers from that improvised visual structure, but I am happy with the end result.

My (hopefully final) version of the gargantuan sea monster that haunts the narrator of the tale “Dagon”, one of the earliest written by H.P. Lovecraft. I have tried to depart from the usual depiction of the primal creature as a gigantic Deep One, the smaller ocean-dwelling species that worships Dagon himself. So I have designed a cross between an armoured prehistoric fish, a sharp-toothed, luminiscent abyssal creature and a walking fish with powerful fins. Graphite on paper with some digital tweaking on the farthest pencil background to achive the effect of deep, dark submarine currents and to enhance some reflections of light. ---------------------- ^( ;,,; )^ ---------------------- Mi versión final (esperemos...) del monstruo marino que persigue al narrador del cuento "Dagón", uno de los primeros escritos por H.P. Lovecraft.
Hoosier Pines Lumber Co. Flat Car no.20 and Logging Engine no. 3
I built this flat car and steam donkey for the 2020 Secret Santa Railcar gift exchange I participated in. The flat car is based on a Virginia & Truckee 34ft car, and the steam donkey is inspired by various real life prototypes. You can read more about them in the Brick Model Railroader article below.
