In the harbour, Howth

Sun up at Howth Harbour. The other side of Howth was covered in sea fog that same morning.

Howth, Dublin, Ireland

“La vida es como un viaje por mar: hay días de calma y días de borrasca. Lo importante es ser un buen capitán de nuestro barco”

―Jacinto Benavente

Taken this evening, bitterly cold weather and snowing every few minutes....

This is a beach in Howth, Dublin, near Martello tower. Across the bay you can just about see Poolbeg Generating Station in Ringsend, Dublin, on the south bank of Dublin Port.

Howth again. Mother Nature was kind today.

Howth on Dublin's north side a day trippers paradise, a fishing village full of character, a deserted winter beach on this occasion with only a few kids playing in the water. This one is a Holga image on Begger 400 film, developed in Rodinal. This low contrast image is really grainy, first time I've used this film, may be the film or the film and developer combination that does this.

Dublin Bay - Ireland

Howth Harbour Lighthouse, built in 1817, is located at the end of Howth Harbour. The building, was also used for defensive purposes as the strong circular wall defends a gun position. The lighthouse keeper’s residence is the small Georgian style house attached. It was occupied until 1955 when electric lighting was first introduced. A nearby sign states that, on Sunday 26th July 1914, author Erskine Childers (The Riddle of the Sands) landed weapons here for the Irish Volunteers from his yacht, Asgard. He was later executed by the authorities of the Irish Free State during the Irish Civil War. His son, Erskine Hamilton Childers, became the fourth President of Ireland from 1973 until his death in 1974
