Sisters,The UPA Government boasts of having achieved 8% growth rate which they claim symbolises development and progress for the country. But can we really claim to be developed when thousands of women in India die in childbirth? When more than half of Indias young women are malnourished? When thousands of girls in India are killed in the womb or as infants, leading to a situation where the numberof women is far below that of men? .

Prices of food are soaring, and the UPA Government claims to lack enough funds toensure healthcare and nutrition for all women. Yet, we have seen how the same Government has allowed super-rich corporations to loot the country of lakhs ofcrores in huge scams. .

Violence against women has been rising steeply every year. Delhi, the nationalcapital, has the dubious distinction of being the rape capital of India. Women from all walks of life face violence and rape on Delhi's streets, but women from poorhomes and women workers are the most vulnerable, and the least likely to get justice. If they approach the police, the latter routinely refuse to register FIRs or take their complaints seriously. .

Women workers face severe discrimination, exploitation and insecurity at work.They work as hard as men, and in addition they bear the burden of caring forchildren and housework yet they are paid less than men. Worksites are supposedto provide creches for care of children but they never do so. Toilets are neverprovided for women workers. And women face sexual harassment at the workplace, at the hands of employers. .

Nowadays Governments are deliberately avoiding to appoint permanent posts. As a result, women workers are often having to do the job of two people, and performduties that are not their own! Women employed on contract are especiallyexploited. If women raise their voice in protest, employers threaten to throw themout of the job. The UPA Government as well as the Congress Government in Delhi isleast bothered about these violations of working women's rights. .

Thousands of women from all over the country work as domestic workers in Delhi.Very often, they are victims of trafficking, and there are no laws to regulate howmuch work they will do or how much pay they will get. They are denied basichuman rights even the right to use the toilet in the homes and colonies in which .
