Taken a short while ago, this shot was taken for a few reasons. First to record the first day where the pond at my local park was completely thawed, secondly, I had to shoot something in that great golden hour light and finally to see what effect a polarizer would have on such a low angle sun.
With dormant wintered reeds and grasses being such a light tan colour they can easily overexpose with glare coming off of them, especially in bright sunlight, so lately I have kept a polarizer on my 16-35mm lens that I use so much for landscapes. I have been learning the ups and downs of the combination.
Shooting at very wide angles are already challenging in shooting skies in that the field of view is wide enough to show how skies are generally uneven when it comes to brightness. Add a polarizer and it is easy to end up with a dark spot where the effect is most concentrated.
In this shot the polarizer has helped with the reflections coming off of the water, and likely to some degree the grasses that are well lit, but the sky was pretty messed up. I have done my best with masking and lightening to even it out, but I still have a long ways to go to figure out the processing part in dealing with the effect the filter has on the sky. Some suggest a blend of two images, one with and one without polarization. Not sure what I will ultimately come up with, but I do like how reflections on elements of the land can be reduced when wanted.
If you have any tips,, let me know.
That is how sky gets in everyday photos.
Taken with Re, Auto Topcor 2.5cm f3.5, a lens that was well avant its time. In every aspect.

Image taken 1 min 17 seconds after previous image. Notice how sky is brighter and has a little blue showing. High on the Blue Ridge between Ashville, NC and Pigeon Forge, TN
more like journey through my archive photos :)
ps. i don't like those banding in sky color, but too lazy to do anything about it. think of them as how sky in fantasyland look like then :))

A lousy sunrise ! Wee hours...My daughter decided to join me and said "Dad, I'll pose for you " ....Initially I had only this tyre (my tyre is intact ;-)) ............so I said "Why not" !!!!!!!
I decided to do something different ....A bit of Progressive Stage Blending ......here's how.
SKY - Two long exposures at different times of the morning blue zone.
WATER - One long exposure from the blue zone.
PSB: Progressive Stage Blending (Technique here)
SAND/BEACH - Wet /Damp Sand picking up the light post the blue zone for a reddish hue.
Left the tyre picking the blue hue of the sky - blue zone
I know it's a bit of a mix n match....preferred some variance against the all blue .
Hope you like it . apologies if it is a bit harsh. NO FILTERS/ NOISE REDUCTION/SHARPENING

As I watched waterfalls spout from mountain sides into Milford Sound, New Zealand, as a result of a series of storms that pounded the area, it made me realize how sky, sea and land are all connected by the delicate cycle of water, evaporation and condensation. We better realize how delicate that balance is and not screw it up with our carbon emissions and global warming because we might not have a second chance. Life depends on water.
but when, how?
sky above, earth below: nothing new. the emperor shuts up, the planet moans. whatever you thought necessary flies away.
go figure. the former title was "shroud".
If you're not walking on a trail or road, you're in snow up to your hip. I had snowshoes on an there were a couple times I tripped on something under the snow and it was pretty tough getting back up. I better understand now how skiers can die if they fall into a tree's snow well. (Snow Bike McCall Idaho DSC_8625.jpg)
A storm is approaching San Diego~ The sky is still blue overhead ~ I can see clouds looming over the ocean ~ I hope it rains but for now I am going to enjoy the blue sky to the max~ Off for a bike ride now ~ See ya when I am back ;-))
It fascinates me how sky and landscape interact in the northern high plains. Crystal clarity and crisp, stretching terrain meld into something so expansive and boundless, but that paradoxically feels like a perfect, scaled diorama you could just reach out and touch. Near Cheyenne, WY, May 27, 2018.
I'm still not done with my show and tell on California. Pigeon Point Lighthouse is a lighthouse built in 1871 to guide ships on the Pacific coast of California. It is one of the tallest lighthouses in the United States.
This is sure one the most beautiful classic vistas in Europe. Not only historic but romantic as well. Every evening tens of locals and tourists stand by the Vltava river to admire yet another sunset and stay there for long minutes to see how sky turns darker and gets into a strong contrast with the lights pointed at Prague Castle, Basilica of St. Vitus and Charles Bridge. Popular Lavka Club finishes the view on the right side and reflections on the Vltava are just icing on the cake.

and here's the second picture in the Meow series, totally different and a casual cougar option, wearing a tiger print top with my red jeans. The pumps color lovely with the top, isn't it? And I parked my latest acquisition on the heels front in the picture, showing how sky-high these heels are (the pumps I think are some 9 or 10cm)

Of all the photos I took during the two evening shoots I tend to prefer this kind of tight compositions more. Wide views are sure nice but longer focal length emphasized the majesty of that beautiful historical architecture more.
Many tourists take part in the evening boat trips to experience this beauty directly from the Vltava river. One boat was just passing by when I tripped the shutter and created nice dynamic light streaks.

View from a sandune on Sylt direction south west: the way how sky and sea are separated reminds me somewhat of Rothko's photos and paintings. Seing how small human's are in comparison would be my original contribution :-)

Below is an excerpt from my travel blog. Cheers.
Almost every Indian I met wanted to know about America. They would sit and ask me about my life, where I came from, how I was able to travel and my life in New York City. It seemed odd at first. Why did this interest them so much? The answer lies in India's caste system. People in many developed countries are fortunate enough to choose what we want to be in life, where we want to live and who we wish to marry. In India, it's a different story. Most people are never given the opportunity to attend a university, For an Indian to hear about our freedom and how sky is the limit to any individual who wishes to better their life is hard for them to fathom.
The caste system is being tested however. Today in India, the status of the various caste classes and the preferential policies that the Indian government has designed for their advancement ever since Independence are sources of conflict within Indian society. Economic liberalization, which began in 1991, the social mobility of a modern economy has disrupted the traditional professions, even of Untouchables. Village life and economic stasis were the greatest allies of the caste system, but both are slowly retreating before modernity in an India that finally gave up the Soviet paradigm of economic planning.
Many Indians would see my camera and ask for their picture to be taken. For them, the novelty of having a camera snap of photo of them is exciting. This boy was cycling through the streets of Jaipur, India.
A melting moment between the dogs - love this photo for the DOF of the road fading away in the distance and the expression on Thumper's face as well as how Sky is pleasingly waiting for him.

So just what DID it mean?
This collection, of big bold black letters on a canary-yellow background, appeared in 2012 on the eastern wall of the Christchurch Art Gallery. It was by Kay Rosen and entitled "Here are the people and there is the steeple."
The official explanation on the City Council website was that the letters spelt "Steeple people - encouraging residents and visitors to talk about the future of the city and its Cathedral."
This dovetailed neatly with the city-wide fixation at the time, to
try and save the EQ-ravaged Christchurch Cathedral... seemingly at all costs, no matter how sky-high! It was "designed to provoke memory, thought and a little controversy."
Quite HOW we were supposed to see "Steeple people" in this is anyone's guess! But hey, welcome to 'Road Cone City'!
... so this is how sky looks like just before the snowstorm! I can feel the wind getting wilder and stronger all the time...not nice!
Wadi-Rum, Jordan.
Sand sand and more sand... Interesting to see how sky turns red during the sandstorm.
This morning's upload is two shots from the balloon. I was surprised at how hazy it was to begin with considering how skies seemed from ground level.
Roosting gulls, Dupont Circle.
