Found this resting on some Goldenrod.

Solidago, commonly called goldenrods, is a genus of about 100 to 120 species of flowering plants in the aster family, Asteraceae. Most are herbaceous perennial species found in open areas such as meadows, prairies, and savannas.

Hoverfly Eristalis tenax aka 'Drone Fly' - I believe drones were named after bees but there hoverflies seem more appropriate.

I deleted over 200 photos I had cached, many duplicates (though I kept some, like my two Cuckoo bird shots and a remaining Heron on the dam in HDR). I hope to be back taking photos soon, and I also hope to be more involved here soon. But then again, second semester is starting . . .

There were three interesting things waiting to be photographed at this lunch stop on the Pacific Highway north of Coolongolook. This critter was hovering in front of me as I waited for the Yellow Robin to make an appearance while the pies cooled down. The wing pattern at such a slow shutter speed was fascinating, a kind of solid of revolution.
