A Hoverfly feeds from the Sedum flower in the afternoon sunshine.

A little hoverfly visiting my daisy plant which is still flowering nicely although the sightings of the insects as we now into early Autumn are becoming less of late.

Hoverfly enjoying straw flowers in the garden today. Wasn't sure how good these flowers would be for attracting insects but delighted to see hovers,bees and butterflies all seem to be attracted to them. Seeds will be bought again nxt Spring .

A pellucid hoverfly (Volucella pellucens) on a thistle.

Hoverflies are easier to catch in flight than Bumblebees because they hover for a second or two, allowing you to gather focus...if you can lock on to them. They are very tiny!
