Found this resting on some Goldenrod.
Solidago, commonly called goldenrods, is a genus of about 100 to 120 species of flowering plants in the aster family, Asteraceae. Most are herbaceous perennial species found in open areas such as meadows, prairies, and savannas.
Photographed in my garden back at the beginning of June this year 2017.
Another new one for me this year which I almost overlooked.
When I caught sight of it out of the corner of my eye I had almost mistaken it for one of the Helophilus species with its striped thorax but then noticed the blotchy markings on the wings and the lovely metallic brassy abdomen.
It is described as being widespread especially in the south UK but rarely abundant.
An attractive hoverfly for sure.
Hoverfly (Syrphus ribesii?).

I am always open to correction/confirmation of ID!
Photographed in our garden, this Hoverfly was giving a demonstration of how these little insects got their name. The glistening white particles on the Hoverfly is pollen from the poppy flowers.
I am not exactly sure of the species of Hoverfly, so if anyone can identify it, I would be grateful!
