Taken in my garden in Northwest Leicestershire.
There were a couple of these flying round so I decided to have a go at a shot. This is the best of a bad bunch, highly amusing though.
Haven't a clue about species, if you know would you be kind enough to let me know.
Male hoverfly (?Syrphus sp.)
If you zoom in you can see that he's holding onto a stamen as he feeds on the pollen (which I thought was very cute!).

Hoverfly loses it's head in potentilla flower - literally. No idea what did this. This is the back of the head. Likely to have been a wasp worker
