At the Butterfly Center at the Houston Natural Science Museum in downtown Houston. I didn't get as many shots in here as I would have liked. It took so long for my camera lens to adjust to the humidity in here. An amazing amount of butterflies and many varieties too. They used these colorful sponges to hold the nectar for their food. Coneflower - Echinacea purpurea
Native - coneflower, Echinacea purpurea, is an easy-care, herbaceous perennial for sun to part/bright shade. Purple coneflower can reach a height of about 2 feet, and perhaps an additional 12 to 18 inches, including its flower spikes, but each plant stays very compact in width, at only a foot or so. Cluster in groups of 3-5 for the most impact. In the right conditions, coneflower will seed out for even more. It’s easy to move them in early spring. Excellent for wildlife and cut flowers. Medicinal herb. Many new hybrids are available in various heights and colors including green, orange, and pale pink. Some of the selections have unusual flower forms.
