New home construction replacing an apple orchard along 800 North in Orem, Utah County, Utah.

Northcote, Victoria

in the middle of our street, our house...

"Ghost" structures (representative house frames) stand in the original locations of homes from that period.

Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site sits on a marshy point, located off of the Ashley River, where a group of English settlers landed in 1670 and established what would become the birthplace of the Carolina colony. Charles Towne Landing introduces visitors to the earliest colonial history of Charleston.

The grounds include 80 acres of gardens, with an elegant live oak alley and the Legare-Waring House. The Experimental Crop Garden showcases crops planted by early colonists for food and profit. While offerings vary seasonally, sugarcane and indigo, two attempted cash crops, are frequently visible.

Collection: The North American Indian Photography of Edward Curtis - Edward S. Curtis, a professional photographer in Seattle, devoted his life to documenting what was perceived to be a vanishing race. His monumental publication The North American Indian presented to the public an extensive ethnographical study of numerous tribes, and his photographs remain memorable icons of the American Indian. The Smithsonian Libraries holds a complete set of this work, which includes photogravures on tissue, donated by Mrs. Edward H. Harriman, whose husband had conducted an expedition to Alaska with Curtis in 1899.

Brinkmann Ranch has an interesting history in that it was the original film location of Southfork Ranch when Dallas was first made as a mini-series. The TV show version of "Southfork" was shot at a different location in Parker, TX when the owner of this house (former Detroit Lion, Cloyce Box) declined to allow it to continue to be used. A few years later it was burned when a worker doing some renovations was careless. The owner started to rebuild with fireproof materials but stopped and later sold the ranch to Mr. Brinkmann (Brinkmann Barbeque Grills). The steel shell of the house is there at the end of the tree-lined driveway. It has been like that for more than 20 years. It is a working ranch with cattle and horses. The site is used for events such as the Cattleman's Ball and other private parties by erecting large tents on the property. Some people think it's an eyesore, but it's my favorite place in Frisco. Someday I hope I can attend an event on the property and take pictures at my leisure instead of flying by at 45 mph. :)

Here's a great article about the history of Box / Brinkmann Ranch: www.friscostyle.com/pdfs/0704_theevolutionoffriscosplacet...
