Unlike the unfortunate owlet, this Least Bittern is ideally suited for launch from within the reeds and marsh grasses of Horsepen Bayou.
One of my Renaissance ranunculus flowers (Spring, 2025) has escaped from the platoon.
But I managed to photograph this renegade bloom.
I have called it 'Houdini'.

This is one of our younger koi that was born in our pond. He was mostly black when he was born but he started showing color when he was 6 months old. I named him Houdini! lol I was at the pond's edge when I took this shot. Look closely and you can see a piece of food in his mouth. Happy Saturday everyone!

One of my cats in the garden posing for me,she is over 16 years old and was born under a willow tree in my garden.
I've been a bit reluctant to go down the AI rabbit hole, but I'm working on an alternate history SF book in which both Houdini and Einstein play pivotal roles. I'll probably self publish it, and I thought I'd try out AI for cover ideas. I probably won't use this image, but I had a lot of fun with it.

I was out on the coast with my friend Haley who is the model in this photo. I decided to head into this location first to scout around to setup my lights etc. I stopped at this one point and I heard the loudest roar directly in my ear. It scared the shit out of me and what I thought was a rock beside me was in fact a large Seal with big ugly teeth and stinky breath. I moved outta there quick into our own private area ensuring every rock was a rock. Makes me laugh thinking about it - such a good day

This copy of Hocus Pocus, written by Henry Dean and published in 1781, was used by the escapologist Harry Houdini, and is held in the Senate House Library in London.
The book describes itself as ‘the anatomie of legerdemain, or, the art of jugling set forth in his proper colours, fully, plainely, and exactly, so that an ignorant person may thereby learne the full perfection of the game, after a little practice : unto each tricke is added the figure, where it is needfull for instruction’.
This book is one of more than three million – many of them priceless and irreplaceable editions – held by Senate House, part of the University of London. I was fortunate to have access to Hocus Pocus and a number of other fascinating titles (more to follow) thanks to my membership of FNL, Friends of the Nations’ Libraries.
Founded in 1931, this charity has awarded thousands of grants to regional, specialist and national libraries, including Senate House. FNL has enabled them to acquire rare books, manuscripts archives and fine bindings which otherwise would be outside their reach.
