Taken during the hottest time of the day in the Masai Mara savannah. The flies were out in force but it don't seem to bother this lioness on the prowl.

Happy Caturday
Today the UK is likely to record it highest temperature since records began. I wanted to have someway of marking this in my stream.
I have positioned these deck chairs at the bottom of my mother's garden in the shade. Maybe they will get some use later but they are a bright and colourful addition to the garden and serve a purpose for this shot!!!!
Last night was the hottest night on Record with temperatures averaging 25 degrees across the country over night.
Thanks for visiting.
Stay cool.....😎.
UPDATE : The UK recorded its highest temperature today (19.7.2022) of 40.3 degrees Celsius (104.5 degrees Fahrenheit) at Coningsby in Lincolnshire....
The deck chairs eventually got used at 10pm 😁.
Take care out there.....
Hottest day of the year, hit 34 degrees, poor poppies at Falmer needed a drink. Still beautiful would like to revisit when we've had rain. A stunning and peaceful evening
Powered by a quartet of Super Fleet GE B40-8Ws, Santa Fe’s 199 train, the hottest in a fleet of hot intermodal trains, barrels through Ancona, Illinois, at 4:00 p.m. on May 9, 1992.

The hottest day of the year with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius and I headed for the sea shore for sunset at Knott End on the Fylde Coast.
I had seen this statue of L.S. Lowry on a previous visit in the winter and thought it would make a good sunset shot in summer. So here I was.
Apparently Lowry visited Knott End frequently between the 1940's and 50's staying at boarding houses on the sea front. He became a familiar figure with the locals making sketches of scenes here. 3 of his famous pieces were of Knott End, with the "Jetty at Knott End" painted in 1957 being perhaps the most notable.
This statue of "the Matchstick Man and his dog" was funded by Preesall Town Council and made by apprentices at the WEC Group in Darwen, Lancashire and unveiled here in 2015.
Thank you so very much!
Trilled happy and honored to have my picture as the group cover!
Thank you!!

Union Pacific's priority Chicago to Los Angeles intermodal was the hottest train on the 'Salt Lake Route' when photographed between Erda and Warner (Tooele), Utah the morning of Oct. 13, 1996. If you look closely, an American President Lines stack train can be discerned in the background of the image, just above the cab of UP 3351. The Lynndyl Sub dispatcher tucked him away in the siding at Erda, in order to run the CHLAX around him while climbing the 0.8% grade to Stockton.
Caught this eastbound KYLE freight outside of Limon, CO (former Rock Island trackage) just as the crew was climbing onboard. With begrudging spousal approval, I got an additional pass here at Genoa. Although it was only another eight miles, we waited some 30 minutes for the train to arrive. Friendly waves from the crew (against G&W corporate policy I'm sure) as the kids and I perched on this hillside. Success; and worth the two-day trip from grandma's house to home.
Today was the hottest June day here in the UK for 41 years. The Met Office reading at London airport was the highest in June since the mercury hit 35.6 (96F) in 1976 - the all-time high since records began. Maybe hot enough to fry an egg on the patio ?
With at the time, a bold forecast of heavy grain traffic in Canada, the decision was made to bring in reinforcements, i.e., pull power out of storage, which meant all but about half a dozen 8-40CM's were reactivated. BCOL 4604 was one of the chosen ones as it was pulled out of Homewood and put back in service. While the grain was not as heavy as expected, there has been an upturn in traffic recently that seems to have justified the revival. While it was not on grain when I saw it, it was leading the hottest eastbound train on the CN Flint Sub, Q148. With temps in the teens and winds comparable, the cold was definitely biting at my hands while the stack train flew by, but seeing a barn back from the brink, is definitely worth the cold fingers.
Not sure what this was doing in Chagrin Falls last night, maybe GOP convention related? Michigan dealer plates...
Really it isn't - Just Death Valley in February 2016 - the hottest place on earth!
Yes, Death Valley was socked in with clouds on this day - a rare occurrence at DV.
This was during 'Super Bloom' - I will be posting photos of the bloom and different desert flowers that were present.
Those are not rivers or snow - rather, salt deposits.
The source of salts is Death Valley’s drainage system of 9,000 square miles—an area larger than New Hampshire. Rain falling on distant peaks creates floods that rush ever lower. Along the way, minerals dissolve from rocks and join the flood. Here, at the lowest elevation, floods come to rest, forming temporary lakes. As the water evaporates, minerals concentrate until only the salts remain. After thousands of years, enough salts have washed in to produce layer upon layer of salt crust.
Death Valley:
Death Valley is famous as the hottest place on earth and driest place in North America. The world record highest air temperature of 134°F (57°C) was recorded at Furnace Creek on July 10, 1913. Summer temperatures often top 120°F (49°C) in the shade with overnight lows dipping into the 90s°F (mid-30s°C.) Average rainfall is less than 2 inches (5 cm), a fraction of what most deserts receive. Occasional thunderstorms, especially in late summer, can cause flash floods.
In contrast to the extremes of summertime, winter and spring are very pleasant. Winter daytime temperatures are mild in the low elevations, with cool nights that only occasionally reach freezing. Higher elevations are cooler than the low valley. Temperatures drop 3 to 5°F (2 to 3°C) with every thousand vertical feet (approx. 300m). Sunny skies are the norm in Death Valley, but winter storms and summer monsoons can bring cloud cover and rain. Wind is common in the desert, especially in the spring. Dust storms can suddenly blow up with approaching cold fronts.
... on the hottest day of the year! Last July at Leith Hall we were regretting the choice of motoring inland rather than seeking the cool breezes of the seaside. But this large old tree offered us some welcome shade. I liked the original shot (in the first comment field) but I wanted a more vintage look that celebrated its age and stature. So Photoshop and NIK were summoned to help me ;o)

Hottest, Driest, and Lowest National Park
In this below-sea-level basin, steady drought and record summer heat make Death Valley a land of extremes. Yet, each extreme has a striking contrast. Towering peaks are frosted with winter snow. Rare rainstorms bring vast fields of wildflowers. Lush oases harbor tiny fish and refuge for wildlife and humans. Despite its morbid name, a great diversity of life survives in Death Valley
Zabriskie Point: Surrounded by a maze of wildly eroded and vibrantly colored badlands, this spectacular view is one of the park’s most famous.
