Went to the nursery the other day and walking into the greenhouse was like walking into August. I don't really approve of planting all those garish late summer colors amid the soft pinks, yellows and lavenders of May but of course I bought lots and lots anyway. And now all those poor plants are still sitting on the patio and freezing their buns off in the cold rain. It might, in fact, be August before I get them in the ground.

It took quite a while for our cameras and lenses to acclimatise in the hothouse. Very humid and warm to suit the exotic species. A Tailed Jay, I think.
Taken in the hothouse at our Botanical Gardens. I will be off and on for the next couple of weeks depending on the internet access.

'De Hortus' is the oldest botanical garden of the Neherlands-- foudend in 1590 by Carolus Clusius. Website: here.
It's been a while since i posted Hortus pics, the last time was some 13 years ago: here, here and here.
……But plenty of shadows! I was attracted to the chair back shadows on the wall. One of the many greenhouses at Holkham Hall in Norfolk - a great day out. Have a super week ahead, stay cosy & locked down to stay safe and to keep EVERYONE else safe too! A VERY BIG THANK YOU to ALL the key workers who are carrying on to benefit the rest of us - we applaud you all. Alan;-)👏👏👏👏👏

It was in the 22 degrees here today and the other cats chose the shade - not Kaiser - oh no he decided it just wasn't hot enough and chose to sleep in the greenhouse where it was probably around 30 degrees
Amsterdam - Hortus Botanicus.
Hortus Botanicus was founded in 1638 by the city to serve as a herb garden for doctors and apothecaries.
Recent additions to Hortus include a huge hothouse, which incorporates three different tropical climates (Wp).

Quarry Bank Mill Gardens, Stylal, Cheshire.
Quarry Bank Mill Gardens Coordinates.53°20′38″N 2°14′58″W.
Quarry Bank Mill (also known as Styal Mill) in Styal, Cheshire, England, is one of the best preserved textile factories of the Industrial Revolution. Built in 1784, the cotton mill is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. Quarry Bank Mill was established by Samuel Greg, and was notable for innovations both in machinery and also in its approach to labour relations, the latter largely as a result of the work of Greg's wife, Hannah Lightbody. The family took a somewhat paternalistic attitude toward the workers, providing medical care for all and limited education to the children, but all laboured roughly 72 hours per week until 1847 when a new law shortened the hours.
