The flags and guidons of the Headquarters, U.S. Army Ordnance Center and Schools, Ordnance Mechanical Maintenance School and Ordnance Munitions and Electronics Maintenance School floated on an agreeable breeze as the Army’s largest corps presented a symbolic end to its 92-year stay at Aberdeen Proving Ground during its School Colors Casing ceremony at Ordnance Circle May 8, 2009.
With a host of former ordnance officers, warrant officers and noncommissioned officers in attendance, the Soldiers, Marines and Airmen of OMMS and OMEMS stood in respectful formation as Brig. Gen. Lynn A. Collyar, OC&S commander and chief of Ordnance, and OC&S Regimental Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel A. Eubanks cased the colors that will be unfurled at the Corp’s new home in Fort Lee, Va., later this summer. Read more...

MABUHAY ALLIANCE HOST THE 6TH ANNUAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
A conference to Assist Minorities in Finances and Business Opportunities
San Diego, CA – The Mabuhay Alliance, a San Diego-based nonprofit that assists minority communities with economic opportunities, will host their 6th Annual Economic Development Conference on October 17th, 2009, at the Sheraton Park Hotel The Anaheim Resort. 1855 S. Harbor Blvd. Anaheim, CA 92802.
This year's theme will be "Partnering for a better Future," and will feature workshops intended to educate and assist small business owners, families, and individuals to gain insight on how to effectively manage business and personal finances.
The workshops will be lead by industry experts and cover such topics as "Foreclosure Prevention Program," "Micro-Business Technical Assistance," "Financial Literacy," and "Supplier Diversity."
The conference will be concluded with a gala dinner, in which the Mabuhay Alliance will present guest speakers Timothy Simon, Commissioner of the California Public Utilities Commission, and California Assembly Member Ted Lieu of the 53rd District. The conference will also honor and recognize the esteemed careers of the Greenlining Founders Robert Gnaizda and John Gamboa.
The conference has been recognized by both the Presidents of the United States and of the Philippines as well as by the Governor of California as contributing to the growth and development of minority communities in California. The Mabuhay Alliance's mission is "to be the preferred conduit of economic development, through technical assistance between the government, corporations and minority groups in California." Statement from Birmingham Against the Cuts meeting 13th November 2010 hosted by Right to Work
This meeting takes place at a time of escalating resistance to the wholesale attack on working class people in this country
5,000 people outside the lib dems conference in Liverpool supported by the NW Regional TUC
7,000 people outside the Tory Party Conference supported by several National Unions and many local organisations
25,000 people at Scottish TUC demonstration aqgainst the comrehensive spending review
50,000 students and workers demnstrating in London this Wednesday backed by NUS and UCU
The student demonstration was a magnificent show of strength against the Con Dems’ savage attacks on education and the largest since David Cameron came to number 10. During the demonstration over 5,000 students showed their determination to defend the future of education by occupying the Tory party HQ and its courtyards for several hours.
We celebrate the fact that thousands of students were willing to send a message to the Tories that we will fight to win. Occupations are a long established tradition in the student movement that should be defended. It is this kind of action in France and Greece that has been an inspiration to many workers and students in Britain faced with such a huge assault on jobs, benefits, housing and the public sector.
In addition this meeting notes the fantastic protests and actions in Birmingham in recent months including:
7000 strong Right to Work demonstration against the Tory Party Conference backed by several national unions (up to 4000 of which attended were local)
The protest against the Comprehensive Spending Review initiated by the Peoples Charter, supported by Right To Work, Save Our Services, BTUC.
Over 30 students occupying and closing the Vodaphone store 2 weeks in a row over tax justice
We support the decision of the TUC to call a mass demonstration against the cuts in March.
We need more resistance to the ConDem government and Birmingham’s ConDem council in the lead up to this national march.
We need to engage the entire labour movement and build the widest possible unity between workers, students, the unemployed and communities.
We support the efforts being made to bring closer co-operation between these constituent parts with a view to forming a Birmingham wide Anti-Cuts Alliance. The Birmingham Trades Union Council initiative to draw together trade unions and campaigns is a welcome step toward this.

Our travels continue. Farewell to our friends Graham and Vanessa, and to our wonderful hosts at Camping Camino, Castrojeriz. A great stay despite the wet weather and lack of Bee Eaters (too cold for bees). We now head into the mountainous areas south of Bilbao, ready for our ferry back to the UK next Tuesday.
