Molen "Geertruida Cornelia" , Gorssel / The Netherlands

The Geertruida Cornelia is a round stone ground sailer in the village of Gorssel, Gelderland.

The permit to build the mill was applied for in 1893, but construction was not completed until 1895 due to the death of the applicant. In addition to the mill, in 1896 a mechanical grinding device was added, powered by a petroleum engine of eight horsepower. The engine was replaced by a diesel engine in 1921. The windmill came to a standstill in 1935 due to a broken rod. Both rods were removed: one rod (sawn into beams) is still in a neighbor's shed, the other rod ended up in the Dutch Open Air Museum in Arnhem. The motor mill took over the work of the windmill until 1972.

In 1999, the entire mill complex with miller's house and mill was restored. The mill was officially opened in 2000.

On a beautiful April 19, 1990, a westbound Santa Fe intermodal train hustles across impressive Canyon Diablo Bridge at Canyon Diablo, Arizona. A quartet of GE B40-8s (Nos. 7419, 7418, 7440 and 7421) along with EMD SD45-2 No. 5808 still dressed in SPSF “Kodachrome” merger colors provide the horsepower.

As I said in my previous picture this beautiful antique mobile from 1934 was a technical tour de force in the automotive world at the time.

This Lagonda M 45 Rapide Tourer had a 6 cylinder engine with a capacity of 4.453 cc and a power of 115 HP, with a top speed from 160 km per hour.

Automotive technology at the time was not yet refined, so the 115 HP from an engine of this size is disappointing and not much compared to today's horsepower.

Before that time, however, it delivered enormous power and high performance and this car was faster and cheaper than a Bentley.

The illustrious car brand Lagonda did not recover from the Great Depression in the 1930s due to financial problems and went bankrupt.

Today, Lagondas sports cars are rare and the standard model price is € 155.800,00.

This boy is equiped with all possible original options and therefor worth several tens of thousand Euros more....

The annual harvest demonstration was held on Tuesday 13 August. Near the farm on the Overduin estate, on the Munnikweg in Oostkapelle, a wheat field has been harvested.

The Zeeland flail wheat was removed from the country and thirsty with authentic tools and feed wagons. With around 25 draft horses and their drivers, the horsepower was supplied to realize all this.

Wish you all a very nice and sunny weekend

I would like to thank all, that you have taken the time to view and comment on my photos, it is very much appreciated.

For decades Ozark fields were plowed with draft or dray horses. . . today a few Amish farmers still do travel in horse-drawn carts and work their fields with real horsepower. . .

One horsepower… A familiar sight in towns and rural areas of Senegal, West Africa.

There is a total of 5,000 horsepower in the engines of these two monsters. The CSX ES44AC is equipped with a V12 engine producing 4,400 hp and the Nissan GT-R NISMO is equipped with a V6 producing 600 hp. The locomotive uses a hybrid diesel-electric transmission so it gets much better fuel mileage.

With a combined horsepower of 10,400 shoving hard on the tail-end of Chicago to Montreal container train no. 142, a trio of EMD GP38-2s and a sole GE AC4400CW illustrate the challenging grade that trains must climb to get over CP's Hamilton Subdivision. Under the careful watch of a seasoned Hamilton yard crew, CP TH11 and its three GPs will cut off from 142 'on the fly' at Waterdown North, leaving the 9765 to assist the train the rest of the way to Guelph Junction and points east.

A group of local horses, stabled in the Lehi Roundup Rodeo grounds, watch in awe as 6000 horsepower of EMD GP40 series locomotives pull the Denver - Salt Lake City "Railblazer" through the small town of Lehi, Utah minutes after sunrise on June 26, 1987.

Extra horsepower required. MN&S at work.

Looks like this one worked the farm pretty good giving the two horses a new lease on life.

Happy Truck Thursday!

HORSEPOWER

Artists: Brad Golden and Lynne Eichenberg

Location: Kitchener City Hall (outside Duke Street entrance), 200 King Street West

Medium: Mixed media (glass, iron, steel, aluminum)

Commissioned to celebrate the opening of the new City Hall in 1993, this piece recognizes the historical role industry played in Kitchener’s development.

This sculpture was inspired by the well-preserved stock of industrial buildings within the city. The project features a composition of four large machinery wheels complimented by a monument glazing screen. The screen facing City Hall displays images selected from the city archives on the surface. A large frosted image of a regional scene faces the countryside beyond.
