For decades Ozark fields were plowed with draft or dray horses. . . today a few Amish farmers still do travel in horse-drawn carts and work their fields with real horsepower. . .

A group of local horses, stabled in the Lehi Roundup Rodeo grounds, watch in awe as 6000 horsepower of EMD GP40 series locomotives pull the Denver - Salt Lake City "Railblazer" through the small town of Lehi, Utah minutes after sunrise on June 26, 1987.

A herd of 200 sparkling stallions, inspired by Cavalia’s white show-horses, takes you on an epic imaginary ride filled with beauty, mystery, majesty and horsepower. This colossal herd, constructed from thousands of dazzling lights, will remind you of the gracefulness of Cavalia’s equine stars that made the show a global success. Through the magic of water screens and brilliant projections, you’ll also see real Cavalia horses enjoying themselves and romping about to music created by the Canadian composer, Michel Cusson.
One of my favorite diesel locomotive types is EMD's SD45 series. Pictured at North Yard, UP 11 awaits work in the Salt Lake Diesel Shop on Sept. 16, 1979. The 3600 HP heavy haul locomotive was built UP 3611 by EMD in April 1968. It was equipped with Radio Control System (RCS) technology, used as a remote "slave" locomotive. UP 11 would be retired in July 1984 and sold for scrap to the Erman Corporation in Turner, Kansas. History courtesy UtahRail.net.
Looks like this one worked the farm pretty good giving the two horses a new lease on life.
Happy Truck Thursday!

HORSEPOWER
Artists: Brad Golden and Lynne Eichenberg
Location: Kitchener City Hall (outside Duke Street entrance), 200 King Street West
Medium: Mixed media (glass, iron, steel, aluminum)
Commissioned to celebrate the opening of the new City Hall in 1993, this piece recognizes the historical role industry played in Kitchener’s development.
This sculpture was inspired by the well-preserved stock of industrial buildings within the city. The project features a composition of four large machinery wheels complimented by a monument glazing screen. The screen facing City Hall displays images selected from the city archives on the surface. A large frosted image of a regional scene faces the countryside beyond.
A BNSF freight rolls eastbound through Belknap, Montana, on the rainy autumn day of September 25, 2013, while a trio of horses are more interested in us photographers than the noisy train behind them. The four locomotives seen in this view represent a total of 17,200 horsepower, verses three for the curious caballos. Also interestingly, the locomotives are painted in four different BNSF paint schemes, verses two on the horses.

Powered by a pair of Union Pacific EMD SD90MAC-H 6,000 hp locomotives, a long southbound UP freight pounds upgrade out of Walong, California, climbing Tehachapi Pass on March 28, 2001. This area is a bit different now, as a second track goes through a cut just to the right of the Tunnel, essentially making it double track from the east end of Marcel to the west end of Walong.
