My mother wanted a copy of Hope Floats for Christmas. I was messing with color levels today so it would work best in the light here and had a few quick print copies on the table. I liked how the floor and the chair and the table and the image were all similar in tone and texture. A little desaturation and viola.
...and in that moment I watched my hope float away, all that I had left of her, all that I had left at all...I could never forget her scent, her love, I knew just how it read---so I tattooed it upon my thigh and my hope forever floats.

External hard drives don't bounce. I wouldn't recommend letting one get snagged by the cords as one moves from a chair and watching it be yanked from a table top to even a carpeted surface before a mid-air snatch can be done to anyone. It was a full 1 TB. I was in the process of moving files from it to another new one to create a different organizational arrangement of files. I had not gotten far. My computer does not recognize it's old friend anymore. This happened late in the evening last night so that I had time to call only a few data recovery services and go to bed with sticker shock for recovery costs dancing through my dreams all evening. I did not wake rested.
It has been an interesting exercise of letting go...of knowing the potential of a few years worth of work and a lot of personal household data 'filed' for 'safety' might be as these bubbles ... floating gently by before bursting at the slightest touch.
I am confident that it all can be safely and securely recovered...for a sizeable fee. Yet it is this encounter with Reality writ large that for me leaves me feeling quite reflective about what is important and what I can let go of in this moment in time.
This image was taken during that time when I was trying to capture bubbles for a Macro Monday theme a few weeks ago. I added a black and white filter to the image and brought the color of the bubbles back in using a layer mask. I figured I would find the 'right' moment to upload this one.
Now seems as good as any...
This is the home Sandra Bullock used as her house in Hope Floats. It had a fence in the movie. The house has a swimming pool in the back yard that the movie crew covered up because they didn't want a pool in the film.

McCollum-Chapman-Trousdale House - 201 E. Eighth St. This large Neoclassical-style home was built for J.H. McColllum in 1908. McCollum was thelocal undertaker, buggy and carriage maker, and had a large store on Main St. In 1917 Dr. Phillip Chapman and his wife, Mamie Trousdale Chapman, purchased the home. The home was inherited by nephew, Gordon Trousdale and is now the home of his son.

Pines Hotel and Cafe
113-117 E. Second Street, Smithville, Texas
This large hotel building was built in 1910 by the Hill family to accommodate railroad workers and traveling salesmen. It included a 16-car garage on the first floor. On the west side of the building is a single-story cafe where Dan Rather spoke to the Lions Club in 1967. The hotel was in use until 1968.
The cafe was used as Honey's Diner in the 1997 movie Hope Floats, which starred Sandra Bullock, Harry Connick, Jr. and Gena Rowlands.

200 Main - Smithville, Texas
Thie Yerger Hill & Son Hardware Store was built in 1898. The interiors still have pressed metal ceilings and skylights. It's now a law office.
This building was used as Snappy Snaps in "Hope Floats" with Sandra Bullock, Harry Connick Jr. and Gena Rowlands.
The hubster and I stopped for BBQ while in Smithville. We both had brisket, ranch beans, cole slaw and potato salad. I just had to ad a big japapeno for the photo! The brisket was tender and the rest was tasty. Worth every calorie. All this food was only $5.50.

Pulled up outside Cranky Yellow to unload the Hope Floats show!
The house is a music making heaven. There are all sorts of music making goodies hanging from the ceiling. The whole thing hooks up to an amp that sits on the top of the truck.
When you're inside making music you can't hear anyone outside, but they can hear your beautiful tunes!
Anna, the engineer who built the house, is a member of the Miss Rockaway Armada! They're known for their kooky/large/awesome art projects!

This vault-style post office building, built by the W.P.A., opened on 1 March 1938. Lyndon Johnson dedicated it the following Sunday. A mural titled "The Law - Texas Rangers" was painted in 1939 by Minette Teichmueller of La Grange, one of only six women who painted Texas post offices.

This is one of two identical buildings opened as the Smithville Cigar Store in 1895. From 1910 to 1925, the building housed a saloon, a shoe shop, a dry goods store, and the shop of A. C. Wrede, Jeweler and official railroad watch inspector. In 1925, the building was divided for a barber shop, a cleaning and pressing establishment, a veterinary clinic, a beer joint and the Liberty Cafe (1951 - 1969).

An image taken last year during a trip to Uttarakhand. I was wandering around 'Wildbrooks' an eco stay deep in Rajaji National Park on a very warm April afternoon and this pair of bee-eaters in love caught my attention.They were really far away, high up in the tree, and i couldnt have cropped the image any further. For almost an year i have made several attempts to make a decent post of this, but never found the result to my satisfaction. Today i made another attempt and i thought i will share and see...:).It's seldom i try texture processing on my bird images. This is one of those occasions.
