For almost 800 years the lighthouse at Hook Head has shone a beacon for sailors off Ireland’s South-East coast, making it one of the oldest working lighthouses in the world.

The branch hooks need to be re-hung with larger nails, but they're ok for now. I also need to move them up a little bit and space them slighty further apart.
Constructicon Hook!
Today, 3.14.11 I'll introduce Hook (rest will follow on a daily basis)
This "batch" (to say the least) I went with a special spin on Hook, using a custom cast head thanks to Calloway Custom Designs and Shapeways. The head is on a pivot. Hook will form Devastator's upper chest/torso.

from H.P. Lovecraft's Horror at Red Hook

Then came the June wedding and the great sensation. Flatbush was gay for the hour about high noon, and pennanted motors thronged the streets near the old Dutch church where an awning stretched from door to highway. No local event ever surpassed the Suydam-Gerritsen nuptials in tone and scale, and the party which escorted bride and groom to the Cunard Pier was, if not exactly the smartest, at least a solid page from the Social Register. At five o'clock adieux were waved, and the ponderous liner edged away from the long pier, slowly turned its nose seaward, discarded its tug, and headed for the widening water spaces that led to old world wonders. By night the outer harbour was cleared, and late passengers watched the stars twinkling above an unpolluted ocean.
Red hook Crit,
Fixed gear race in NYC, pretty amazing to watch guys bomb down the straight into the hairpin at the end, brakeless, and in big packs.
Loads of stacks.

I'm sure this is a metaphor for something, but I have no idea what.

We used a chrome plated loop pull turned on its side for a unique outfit staging hook. Remember, black is thinning.
This solid brass coat hook comes from an "old federal building", according to the label on the back.
Being in Chicago, this likely means it originally hung somewhere in Henry Ives Cobb's Chicago Federal Building, demolished in 1965. I imagine dozens of them, lining the hallway of the judges' chambers... or in a cloak room off the lobby. Who knows.
I love the worn patina, the little voids and spots where the molten metal didn't quite fill, and the overall size and heft; it juts out 4" from the base, and stands nearly 5.5" tall. Feels like it's around a pound.
I hope to one day reproduce these in brass - maybe also a darkened bronze. It'd make a killer bathrobe hook, and I could even imagine a row of them, lined up on an exposed brick wall in a garage or barn.
It's a simple, utilitarian design that neither Melissa nor I have seen before. That's saying something, as we've looked at a lot of old hardware. At $25, we just couldn't pass up.
Found over the weekend locally on Craigslist.
Sandy Hook as seen from Mt. Mitchell, Atlantic Highlands, NJ, You can see the lighthouse, World War I battlements, the missiles at the entrance to Ft. Hancock, and officers row. And, of course, New York City in the background. Unfortunately, there was a bit of haze in the air, so the view was somewhat disappointing!
