Courting hoodies are kind of like shape shifters. Some times the head looks like a fire hydrant, other times like a barber pole, and of course there is the John Travolta head toss. This is a mild version of the Travolta head toss.

Glass half full, says he is holding her head above water for her own sake, Glass half empty says he is holding her so she can't get away and he cqn have his way with her. Seems pretty obvious to me, that the glass is half empty.

Hooded mergansers cruise a waterway on a winter day in western Washington.

High Park, Toronto

I have been checking my private pond every morning and yesterday around noon Joachim stopped by to tell me the Hooded Mergansers had arrived, 2 males and 3 females so far. The afternoon light is not the best there but great fun to see them back!
