Mount Hood, called Wy'east by the Multnomah tribe, is a potentially active stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc of northern Oregon. It is the highest point in Oregon, 11,249 ft (3,429 m), and the fourth highest in the Cascade Range.
Something we folks that live within the shadows of the Cascades keep in mind:
Mt. Hood is considered the Oregon volcano most likely to erupt, though based on its history, an explosive eruption is unlikely. Still, the odds of an eruption in the next 30 years are estimated at between 3 and 7 percent, so the U.S. Geological Survey characterizes it as "potentially active." Mt. St. Helens comes to mind...
Regardless I'm looking forward to spending some time at Mt. Hood's bigger brother, Mt. Rainier, this summer.

There were countless rhododendron blooms on my hike in the Mount Hood wilderness last weekend. It was hard to choose just one photo of them so I may post more. This one is my favorite I think. The light was just right and some cool colors in the bokeh of the forest behind them was pleasant.
My first post with LELUTKA head (Korina) :)

I call this image “THE HOOD”
This is a “just for fun” composite image. The building is on Savannah’s Waterfront. It houses a hotel and shops …. the entrance is on the other side of the building facing East Bay Street in the heart of Old Savannah.
The images in the windows, on the balconies, and the building were placed there by the artist to create the feel of an old “Hood” (neighborhood).
A fine day for snowshoeing turned into and excellent day for Mount Hood spotting. Look close and you might see a few climbers.

Welcome to the first day of summer (or winter)!
The last confirmed eruption of Mt. Hood was in 1865-1866.
If you really look at the image - you get a sense of how big this mountain really is. Look at the distance and the amount of trees between my vantage point and the mountain itself.
Someday I'd love to hike on this mountain. Kind of a bucket list item for me.
At 11,250 ft, it's Oregon's highest point. This view is from the southwest. (Mount Hood Shots DSC_8749.jpg)

With the dark clouds over the oil refineries, this picture could be a metaphor for our future with fossil fuels, which were great at one time, but which hopefully are ready disappear into the sunset!
This is still a 6/16 view, passing the beautiful Mt Hood on the way to the town of Hood River in northern OR. It is the dominant feature of this scenic landscape - HFF!
