This is the female Red Crossbill who posed for me with a different background. This was a real treat for me because most Crossbills we saw were busy eating grit off the roads in order to help grind up the seeds they eat. The park has posted several signs asking people to honk their horns when they see a flock of these birds on the road so they don’t hit them and the birds get injured. This image shows the crossed tips on the bill that help them get the seeds from the cones of coniferous trees by moving the bill sideways to pry open the cone and then using their tongue to get the seed out. They are truly unique birds in our area. Happy Wing Wednesday.
A couple of Canada Geese in full honking mode. They were standing on the bank of the New Fork River near Pinedale, Wyoming.
I saw three separate flocks of geese overhead in the first half hour of my walk. This was the largest and loudest, as they headed southwest.

We all have our time machines. Some take us back, they're called memories. Some take us forward, they're called dreams.

To show the importance of teamwork, we can take examples from the lives of geese.
Fact: As each goose flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the birds that follow. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock gains 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.
Lesson: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.
Fact: When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front of it.
Lesson: If we have as much sense as a goose we stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others.
Fact: When the lead goose tires, it rotates back into the formation and another goose flies to the point position.
Lesson: It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks and sharing leadership. As with geese, people are interdependent on each other's skill, capabilities, and unique arrangements of gifts, talents, and resources.
Fact: The geese flying in formation honk to encourage those up in front to keep up their speed.
Lesson: We need to make sure that our honking is encouraging. In groups where there is encouragement, the production is much greater. The power of encouragement (to stand by one's core values, and to encourage the core values of others) is the quality of honking we seek.
Fact: When a goose gets sick, wounded or shot, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with it until it dies or is able to fly again. Then, they launch out with another formation or catch up with the flock.
Lesson: If we have as much sense as geese, we will stand by each other in difficult times as well as when we are strong.
Well today I had a lesson in Geese , and the class was taught by my 5 yr old .. Bella explained to me that she could speak Canadian Geese and at first she taught me easy words such as Hi, Bye ,and See you later.. When speaking Geese you must also have movement in your body and arm.. After each time I would get it right , Bella would pat me on the back and congradulate me . I guess I graduated "Geese 1on1 cause the next thing I know , Bella was teaching me how Spainish Canadian Geese talk.. That is where I learned what is now the title for the photo.. "Honk-O, That is Spainish Canadian Geese Talk for "Hello"
*Honkers
Synonyms: Canada goose, Canadian goose, Branta canadensis
Brown-backed, light-breasted goose with a black head and neck and white cheeks. Subspecies vary in size, from the 4.4-lb (2-kg) cackling goose to the 14.3-lb (6.5-kg) giant Canada goose, which has a wingspread of up to 6.6 ft (2 m). Canada geese breed across Canada and Alaska and winter mainly in the southern U.S. and Mexico. Their almost incessant honking draws attention to their V-formations during migration. In recent years their population in North America has increased, making them pests in some inhabited areas.

PixQuote:
"The state of mind of a photographer while creating is a blank...For those who would equate "blank" with a kind of static emptiness, I must explain that this is a special kind of blank. It is a very active state of mind really, a very receptive state of mind, ready at an instant to grasp an image, yet with no image pre-formed in it at any time. We should note that the lack of a pre-formed pattern or preconceived idea of how anything ought to look is essential to this blank condition. Such a state of mind is not unlike a sheet of film itself - seemingly inert, yet so sensitive that a fraction of a second's exposure conceives a life in it. (Not just life, but "a" life)."
-Minor White
Note: I am going through a static emptiness....right now...I am not sure it is a good thing!!!

I returned once again this year to the Middle Creek Wildlife Conservation Area in Kleinfeltersville, Pennsylvania, to view the annual snow goose migration.
After a slow start this year due inclement weather in February, the numbers of geese have exploded into the hundreds of thousands in recent days, leading to some incredibly impressive mass liftoffs.
Honker Quartet.
We now have large flocks of these noisy geese at every pond in the area. Taken at Exton Park
