It was time yesterday, May 21st 2023, to buy a new teapot. I buy teapots every six months or so, lol. The last one was orange-themed, but this one is blue-themed.

My new T2 blue 'Vintage Vibes' teapot, with matching teacup & saucer, from T2 at Chatswood. See:

www.t2tea.com/en/au/teawares/brewing/tea-for-one-sets/vin...

So then I went to Castle Towers on the Metro from Chatswood to buy a new blue glass bowl to go with the teapot!! So this is my new 'Blue Splash' hand-painted glass bowl from Turkey (Turkiye).

After coffee and raisin toast at 'Flower Child' I miraculously found this bowl at 'Wheel & Barrow' homewares, Level 1, Castle Towers. See:

So Kavita's Store was a new store for me. I was drawn to it because I saw a dress in the weekend sales and I could tell it would have the right amount of quirk for my personality. Imagine my joy when I got there and found (a) it specializes in clothing and accessories for "senior" Avis and, even though the items were photographed on seniors, they are just so quirky and unique that I was like a kid on a candy store. I've spoken to the creator and am hoping to show you more items soon, but let's start with what I have on today.

Wikipedia: Liberty, commonly known as Liberty's, is a luxury department store in London, England. It is located on Great Marlborough Street in the West End of London. The building spans from Carnaby Street on the East to Kingly Street on the West, where it forms a three storey archway over the Northern entrance to the Kingly Street mall that houses the Liberty Clock in its centre. Liberty is known around the world for its close connection to art and culture, it is most famous for its bold and floral print fabrics. The vast mock-Tudor store also sells men's, women's and children's fashion, beauty and homewares from a mix of high-end and emerging brands and labels.

It is a Grade II* listed building but is mock-Tudor having been built in 1924.

Excerpt from www.centralmarket.hk/en/conservation/#architecture:

The first generation of Central Market was a wartime building. After the British arrived on Hong Kong Island in 1841, they needed to establish a variety of buildings and facilities. This resulted in an influx of Chinese artisans and food traders which called for the need of a market.

Central Market was formally opened to the south of its present site on 10th June 1842. It is the earliest one in the City of Victoria and was called the “Canton Bazaar”.

The records show that the market was run by a Chinese, called Afoon.

In 1850s, The Taiping Rebellion in China resulted in another influx of Chinese escaping to Hong Kong. The rapid population growth resulted in a demand for new markets. The second generation of Central Market was believed to be established in 1858 at the present location.

In 1895, the government rebuilt the market into a more elegant marble building.

The third generation of the market building was 3-storey high Victorian style building, with a tower in the middle. It was demolished in 1937 and rebuilt into what is now the current Central Market the following year.

The Bauhaus architectural style was very popular at that time, and markets like Central Market and Wanchai Market were built in this style.

Bounded by Des Voeux Road, Queen's Road, Queen Victoria Street and Jubilee Street, the fourth generation of the market we see today was designed by the Public Works Department and completed and opened in May 1939.

The corners of the façade are slightly-rounded and have an almost symmetric interior layout, which is possibly influenced by the “Streamline Moderne” style.

Bauhaus style buildings have almost disappeared in Hong Kong, and now only the Central Market and Wan Chai Market are left.

Excerpt from www.littlestepsasia.com/hong-kong/shop/malls/central-market/:

Central Market was originally built in 1939 and is Hong Kong’s first wet market. Situated on Des Voeux Road Central, the building is finally opened its doors to the public on August 23, 2021, after a 12-year revitalization project costing over HK$500 million.

Referring to itself as a “Playground for All”, the new space houses an array of dining and shopping venues, ranging from local boutiques, homeware stores, and a wide variety of restaurants. It will also be a hub for various cultural and educational activities. This concept of “Boundaryless” is the central pillar in the Central Market’s design concept.

In the new design, the idea of boundaryless spacial integration is obvious throughout – double folding doors on the ground floor, that once opened, provide a view through the entire market; an open design plan without the pillars that are normally used in commercial spaces; open seating, comfy dining spaces, and free Wi-Fi coverage throughout.

Mackays Stores Limited

Mackays Stores Limited (previously Mackays, trading as M&Co.) is a Scottish chain store selling women's, men's, and children's clothes, as well as small homeware products. Its head office is in Inchinnan, Scotland, though its main buying office is in London. Previously, its head office was at Caledonia House in Paisley.

Established in 1834 as pawnbrokers, Mackays switched to selling clothes in 1953 by brothers Len and Iain McGeoch. In 2005 the company rebranded as M&Co. to reflect a more modern image.[7] The chain operates over 300 stores and also has an online presence.

The Embassy Cinema opened on 11th February 1937 with Will Hay in "Windbag the Sailor". It was built for and operated by the Shipman & King circuit and they operated it throughout its life.

Designed in an Art Deco style, the square brick exterior is similar to the Majestic Cinema, Sevenoaks. The cinema was equipped with a cafe for the convenience of its patrons.

S&K closed the Embassy Cinema in 1969, and despite a 2,000 signed petition, it was converted into a supermarket for Vyes the grocers. It later became a Lo-Cost, then a Co-Op Supermarket and in 2009 operates as an M & Co. The original ‘Embassy’ name sign has been retained on the building.

This vibrant and colorful abstract piece captures my fascination with botanical elements through a series of overlapping organic shapes and patterns. You’ll find stylized plant motifs with softly curved leaves and floral elements. The interplay of colors and forms creates a sense of movement and depth that’s both dynamic and harmonious. I hope “Autumns Whispers” inspires a moment of reflection and connection with nature’s beauty.

"Flax and Twine" sell interesting gifts, antiques and homewares with a cafe on the first floor at number 20 Shambles. The building dates from the mid 18th century. It was originally a house, with two rooms to each floor with a central staircase that led to each of the three floors. In the 19th century it was made into a shop, with living accommodation above. Shambles is one of York's most picturesque streets and gets busy towards midday. It is much quieter early in the morning.

The Corner Cupboard in Saffron Walden is a Gift shop and jewellery shop who offer a wide variety of designer jewellery, watches, gifts and homeware.

óshe next door is a boutique selling shoes, handbags and umbrellas? óshe was born from a pure and simple addiction to classy shoes and handbags. Offering everyone to be able to wear something designer, something different from the high-street.

Saffron Walden is a market town in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England, 19 km north of Bishop's Stortford, 24 km south of Cambridge and 69 km north of London. It retains a rural appearance and some buildings of the medieval period. The population was 15,504 at the 2011 census.

Archaeological evidence suggests continuous settlement on or near the site of Saffron Walden from at least the Neolithic period. It is believed that a small Romano-British settlement and fort – possibly in the area round Abbey Lane – existed as an outpost of the much larger settlement of Cestreforda to the north.

After the Norman invasion of 1066, a stone church was built. Walden Castle, dating from about 1140, may have been built on pre-existing fortifications. A priory, Walden Abbey, was founded under the patronage of Geoffrey de Mandeville, 1st Earl of Essex about 1136, on the site of what is now Audley End House. The abbey was separated from Walden by Holywell Field. After the dissolution of the monasteries, Sir Thomas Audley converted its cloisters into a dwelling. Later this became the site of Audley End House.

The main trading item in medieval times was wool. A guildhall was built by the wool-staplers in the market place, but demolished in 1847 to make way for a corn exchange.

A trio of decorative hanging cages as seen through the shop window of a homewares store.

I found this cute little pale green beetle a couple of weeks ago on a day when I had a few errands to run and finding VW's wasn't on my to do list but it just so happens I found three in the space of an hour.

Not only did I just happen to park opposite this one but instead of walking up the main street as I normally would I walked up a little alley where where I found a fabulous piece of street art which also perfectly matched this beetle and I am going to post that version too, but then I also found another fabulous shop called 'The Family Love Tree' which has the most amazing homewares and interiors and the most incredible colour co-ordinated displays. The lady in the shop was very kind to let me take a few photos and of course this pale green tyre was an instant pairing as soon as I saw it . . . when else was I going to find a painted tyre in the same colour as my beetle.

It seems this past week has escaped me and while I have been conscious that I must post the remainder of my VW's for my project 100, time has completely escaped me and it suddenly dawned on me last night, that today is the last day of the year and so clearly I am going to miss the deadline but I will continue to post them and complete this project.

My Morty Moment.

An urban legend is born.

About seven years ago l tried the internet dating seen, to say it was interesting was an understatement.

For one summer l got to travel all over the state and have dates.

Despite being over two hundred pounds or 105 kg s l would still phone a friend, to say where l was, and that l was going on a blind internet date, just in case she turned out to be a female John Jarret rerun of Wolf Creek, and had a sledge hammer for my ankles if l tried to get away.

It was around Christmas, and l had a date, part of the date was to go to Woodend for lunch, and have some craft beer at the Holgate Brewhouse.

Before we caught up, l thought l would walk around and do some Christmas shopping.

I don’t mind cooking, although l am not the best at it, the process is relaxing, and l always find eating a meal l have made myself rewarding.

I found a homeware & kitchenware shop, and spotted the vegetable knife pictured over the map.

On an impulse buy, l bought it, and it should be noted that it is an excellent kitchen knife!

The part where it gets like a George Costanza skit out of Seinfeld, is we met at Woodend, and l had nowhere to stash the mini cleaver.

Doh!

We went to lunch, and she thought l had bought her a gift for the date and Christmas. She asked what l had, and pestered me to see what l had bought.

She was a little set back when l told her l had bought a mini cleaver, but she was a trooper, and was very cool considering her blind date had what looked like a meat hatchet.

Yes! l took a meat cleaver to a blind internet date.

Funny enough the date went well.

Happy New Year everyone, and hope you got a smile and laugh out my Morty moment.
