"I'm a searchlight soul, they say

But I can't see it in the night.

I'm only faking when I get it right"

Zac took time away from doing electrical work at Brother Matt's house to hang this fan.

Cryptic measurements left behind by our contractor's assistant.

After years, we’re finally tackling the guest bedroom by painting the ceiling, trim and doors white and the walls in Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray!

Finishing his contribution to the outbuilding construction Billy signed the wall.

Again, this room is a little cluttered and incoherent. And we desperately need a new mattress, which I will be buying with my tax refund... snap!

Completed wall! This took way too much work thanks to printing issues. What a nightmare! The final result is pretty great though so worth it in the end.

I've finally gotten around to painting an accent wall in my living room today. I still have one more coat to go but I can't wait to have it finished. When you have a place of your own to call home things such as an 8 foot ladders goes on your wish list. I love my home. I got lazy and this photo doesn't do justice of how wonderfully perfect this color, tea green, is with the floors. I just got to lazy attempting to edit the lighting since the lighting in the room gives off a yellow tint and the sun had already gone down by the time I finished.

We've had guys in our house all week. Everything is a complete mess and I'm about to lose my mind.

A quick test of the restored runway sign lit up at night.

Our neighbor was nice enough to offer some new trees for a privacy wall. He planted the 4 line trees today.

This is halfway through the backsplash creation -- normally I'd wait until all the tile was up to take the picture, but what the heck. Stage 12 will show the whole shmear, grouted.

Updated to PEX with a water manifold.

A window blind is a kind of window covering that can be operated on a cordless switch. There are currently many different types of window blinds that make use of various control systems. Some of them are operated using remote controls while others need to be turned on with a cord. A number of window blinds also make use of very small and intricate sliding mechanisms. Most window blinds consist of a sliding cover that has a couple of slats. The slats slide horizontally as well as vertically.

The second day we did the last rows of new flooring. A big improvement over the old stuff.

Fixing up the old nursery to become Jack's room. Ended up being one box short.

All that remains is the tile back splash under the cabinets and around the sink... we chose the tile this past week (an ivory mini-subway tile - i think it will look great!), we just need to rent the equipment and install it.

Since April, there is new:

-design - one wall knocked out, and appliances relocated, also island was widened

-floor - from oak to bamboo

-cabinetry - from oak to maple, new design, finish, and hardware

-countertops - from laminate to quartz stone

-lighting - fluorescent to recessed LEDs

-paint - green to gray

-butcher block for island top

-appliances - from white to stainless (and new sink and faucet)

Replaced the terribly old toilet upstairs. This new one uses 1.28 gal. per flush.

Using the tractor to move a few items was easier on the back for sure.

Home improvements are almost done - in this you can see a solid oak grab rail on one side of the staircase which Huw put up yesterday to replace our old mahogany one, and taken through the banisters on the other side.

Used the router to round off the edge of the center beam that will be the foot rest. Also gave the top and side surfaces a final sanding and cleaning before staining.

Kasey and Anthony joined us to help on the outbuilding.

Jack helped dad by installing 3 2x4's.

First step of putting down new flooring is removing the old.

My favorite detail in our whole apartment.

Stain was applied to the top and sides of the table top and center beam. Later today the first coat of polyurethane will be applied.

just tiled our bathroom floor and shower

All but 2 small pieces of the lower row are hung. The other exception is the sheets going on the framed rooms. That could be done later without a lift. It will also allow more light into the main room by not closing off 2 windows.

I used the lift to move a few sheets to the loft for future installation.
