Took the day off work and made a late breakfast of poached eggs.

This is another one of those T-Bone Steaks that I got on sale recently. It turned out really good on my indoor grill! Although I would have preferred a thicker cut, I really can't argue with the price at only CDN$5.49/lb!

I'll be keeping my eye out for another great sale!

I made a crepe cake with chocolate crepes and homemade chocolate ricotta cheese and homemade whipped cream. I alternated the layers of whipped cream and ricotta and topped it with some black cherry compote.

The best meat in DC can be found in Spring Valley at Wagshal's Market. USDA Prime porterhouse and fresh asparagus. Seasoned only with Maldon salt flakes and coarse ground black pepper. Sous vide cooked at 125º and then seared on blazing hot cast iron. Topped with garlic ghee.

Another from my second pasta making shoot with a different angle. I get such a feeling of accomplishment when I make homemade stuff and many times fresher is much better. I had never made this dish before today. I had eaten it on Indian buffets and always liked it. Today I opened the fridge to look at what to make for dinner and I saw fresh mushrooms and it clicked.

Deviled eggs 3 ways bacon, capers and celery leaves.

I'm working on a backdrop for an upcoming dish. I made an ice bowl to hold some fruit.

A bowl of roasted red, orange and yellow peppers soup. I also added garlic, onions, chicken stock, milk and smoked gouda cheese. I blended the soup to give it the luxurious texture. I had some french bread I made croutons from by melting butter and adding olive oil and garlic and then tossing in the bread pieces in a frying pan until golden and crispy. I topped the soup with some drops of olive oil and a pat of butter.

I tried making something new. I filled them with a chocolate/peanut butter cream cheese/buttercream frosting concoction I made up.

The butter pound cake I made with some fresh whipped cream and blackberries rolled in sugar.

A simple egg salad sandwich with the addition of some capers.

Dinner last night was another round of home made pasta. So incredilbly simple and oh so tasty when its fresh. I'm going to guess 3.75 total for meal of 6 portions. Beef neck bones 1.48, Aldi's egg noodles probably not much more than 1.00 2 onions 50 cents and maybe 3 tablespoons of sour cream. I pressure cooked the neck bones until tender. I pulled the meat off the bones. I stained the water from the pressure cooker. I sauteed onions until nice and tender. I cooked the noodles in the stained beef water. I added the beef and onions and let it cook until the noodles where done. I mixed in the sour cream just to thicken the liquid. I'm glad there was no sour cream taste because I don't much care for it. Delicious cheap meal that I would feel comfortable serving dinner guests. I enjoy taking things most people won't use and trying to elevate them.

What do you do with leftover veggie trays? Make a StirFry, of course!

There were quite a bit of leftover vegetables from a recent gathering at my uncle's, as well as some chicken skewers. Rather than let anything go to waste, I made a quick and tasty dish that was also healthy. Good dinner!

I love a good steak and this one from Whispering Meadows was really good! I seasoned it with a bit of Montreal Steak Spice and cooked it to a perfect medium-rare on an indoor electric grill. It was tender, juicy, and delicious!

Everything I've had from Whispering Meadows has been excellent quality! Give them a try - www.whisperingmeadows.ca

I made a lemon mousse with a homemade lemon curd and served it with a blueberry coulis. The background blueberries are in a bowl I made from ice.

If you are stuck inside make it wonderful :)

I dyed the egg whites orange and then piped the filling in and topped them with a caper, lettuce leaf and fresh ground black pepper.

I often don't have a plan for cooking a meal. I usually just wander through my local supermarkets, browsing the items on sale, and looking for inspiration.

This time, I found some shredded pork, and asparagus, both on sale. I threw in some Asian seasonings and did a quick stir-fry, topping it with some kimchi that I already had. It turned out delicious! I'll have to do this again.

I enjoy a good pasta dish but I often can't decide if I want it really simple, or with a tomato sauce, or with a cream sauce.

I cooked some Tortellini, stuffed with Prosciutto - a little Parmesan cheese on top and done! Not bad for a simple meal.

I then made a tomato sauce with Italian sausage, mushrooms, and Parmesan cheese. Of course, this took considerably longer and made a bigger mess but the results were delicious!

While both versions were good, I'm not sure if the extra effort and time are always worth it. What are your thoughts?

PS - The tortellini was store-bought. I'm not talented (or patient) enough to make my own. 😜

A Homemade Brunch I made myself today of Eggs Benedict.

The Sauteuse.

My kinda "multitool" in the kitchen.

Perfect Christmas gift for ambitious homechefs/kitchen firestarters.

A forgiving pan that is capable of covering your mistakes and can actually give you an alibi in certain situations...

Homemade peanut butter and chocolate goodness.

I made some very dark gooey fudgy brownies. I like them dense and insanely not cakey at all. They are like double chocolate with dark chocolate chunks. I topped them with a dark chocolate ganache and a salted caramel addition.

Homemade extra dark cupcakes with a sinful Buffalo Trace Bourbon Frosting. The frosting was made with homemade ricotta cheese.
