My wife bought me this thermostat from Ecobee for Christmas. It installed without any major issues, except that it would not pull an address from my DHCP server, which is easily remedied with a static IP address. After we upgraded our house to solar last year, I am less interested in the cost savings, and more interested in the automation and ease of remote control. Merry Christmas everyone.
We use the robot vacuum at home, even barbie gets a spin while the robot hoovers up. We see technology becoming part of our home lives more and more every day.

After sitting down and picking up the Crestron control touch panel, you press"Theater On". With that one press, the curtains open while the lights dim slowly, the video projector fires up and the sound system kicks on. By the time the curtains are fully open and the lights dimmed to "showtime" levels, an image is already appearing on the screen and starts playing. Full automation with real time feedback on the two-way remote.

Custom wall fabric, custom seating, handmade carpet and 24k gold leaf paint give this room a luxurious feel. You can see the projection window which is offset 42" from the center of the screen which required a custom Runco MBX-1 projector. You can also see inside of the massive doors and the gold-thread monogram on the custom reclining seats.

After entering the theater you see this beautiful, turn-of-the-century Parisian opera house style theater. It is completely custom and REAL. No fake wood or faux finishes. Actual 24k goldleaf paint adorns the ceiling and wall highlights, the fabric is custom with hand stenciled designs. The carpet was hand made in one piece just for this room. The seats were custom made just for this client. Nothing was held back and it show in the final the product.

The house has a central cable box with CAT5e, coax and other cables. There is a bit of work to do to set up a home network, then investigate what we can do with respect to home automation.
The outside of the box led me to believe it was just the connections for the security system but opening it up was a pleasant surprise.
This straight on view shows the front left and right speakers along with 14 of the 24 subwoofers in this room. The center channel speaker is positioned behind the Stewart 16:9 Microperf screen. All speakers, subwoofers, and amplifiers are CAT/MBX. This room performs!

“The Electric House” – a beautiful Townley & Matheson designed 1922 house is up for demolition at 1550 W 29th Avenue.

Built as an “electric model show-house” for the public which opened Wednesday, October 11, 1922 at 2pm, demonstrating how a fully electric home of the future could operate.
In a city where lot-value trumps anything sitting on it, our architecture history is being wiped clean.
Development and demolition permit applied for, orange-fencing-of-death just went up, but still up for sale at $7.3m.
It’s not listed on the heritage register, but even then in this climate, it might have only been reviewed. There simply aren’t enough financial heritage incentives to offset the high property values, when lots are viewed solely as value.
About the only way to protect certain sites would be through Heritage Designation (legally protected), a sensitive buyer, or move it (problematic) - or a local move into First Shaughnessy as infill?
With moving, overhead trolley wires, hydro, and trees create the issues, and affect the moving costs.

These 10" thick solid bronze doors are decorated with cast relief figures of lions. The doors needed to be hung on custom made bank vault hinges which anchored to substantial steel reinforcement in the walls.
