Hội An,Quảng Nam,Việt Nam

Hội An, formerly known as Fai-Fo or Faifoo (Hội An (會安) translates as "peaceful meeting place". In English and other European languages, the town was known historically as Faifo. This word is derived from Vietnamese Hội An phố (the town of Hội An), which was shortened to "Hoi-pho", and then to "Faifo"), is a city with a population of approximately 120,000 in Vietnam's Quảng Nam Province and noted since 1999 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Old Town Hội An, the city's historic district, is recognized as an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century, its buildings and street plan reflecting a unique blend of influences, indigenous and foreign. Prominent in the city's old town, is its covered "Japanese Bridge," dating to the 16th-17th century.

Hoi An en tipikoak diren faroltxoak

I took this shot on a bike ride right outside of Hoi An in Central Vietnam.

Photo memories Vietnam holiday 2008

Arrived in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) as start of the tour.

Visited the famous Cho Binh Tay market, The old post office,

some war museums in the city center including a walk around the reunification Palace.

Sidetrip from the city is a daytrip to the Cao Dai Temple and the

Cu Chi Tunnel complex

Next part of the tour is heading south to the Mekong Delta and Can-Tho, including a visit to the floating market.

From the Mekong delta the tour is heading north again, visiting coastal places Phan-Thiet, Nha-Trang and qiu-Nhon.

Hoi-an and Hue are both Unesco World Heritage sites and well worth to visit.

Passing the DMZ-zone, the scenery changes quickly.

The Phong-Nha and Tan-Coc caves are amazing.

Almost at the end of the tour, we bumped into the crazy Hanoi traffic in the old city center.

The citytour included a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum,

the Army museum and best of all ice coffee at 'Highlands Coffee'

Last part included Unesco World Heritage at Halong Bay

Stop-over in Hong-Kong on the way Home !

Looking down the street and across the water towards the Japanese Bridge in Hoi An.

Chùa Pháp Bảo Buddhist Temple

Vietnam is a poor country and many people make their living any way they can. Several people (older women in particular) offered tourists rides in their little boats up and down the river. Others make their living offering farm produce for sale, cooking "street food" - all sorts of things. Certainly is a different world to our comfortable Western lifestyles.

Hội An also Faifo, is a city of Vietnam, on the coast of the South China Sea in the South Central Coast of Vietnam. It is located in Quang Nam province and is home to approximately 120,000 inhabitants. It is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Hoi An Ancient Town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Its buildings and its street plan reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that have combined to produce this unique heritage site

The city possessed the largest harbour in Southeast Asia in the 1st century and was known as Lâm Ấp Phố (Champa City). Between the seventh and 10th centuries, the Cham (people of Champa) controlled the strategic spice trade and with this came tremendous wealth. The former harbour town of the Cham at the estuary of the Thu Bồn River was an important Vietnamese trading centre in the 16th and 17th centuries, where Chinese from various provinces as well as Japanese, Dutch and Indians settled. During this period of the China trade, the town was called Hai Pho in Vietnamese. Originally, Hai Pho was a divided town with the Japanese settlement across the "Japanese Bridge" (16th-17th century). The bridge (Chùa cầu) is a unique covered structure built by the Japanese, the only known covered bridge with a Buddhist pagoda attached to one side

The best time to take a tour in Hoi An old city is during walking hours. no motorbike & only pedestrian & bicycle . music from the speakers on every corner of this beautiful city. I love and I hope that I can go back again.
