The Cheesemaker's Hobbit Hole, Hobbiton Movie Set, Matamata, New Zealand. One of 44 different Hobbit Holes (the preferred dwellings of Hobbits in the Shire) preserved following the filming of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy 2000 and The Hobbit Trilogy 2011. The movie set is preserved in the middle of a large working farm (1250 acre sheep and beef farm). During summer months the lush green Hobbiton is watered twice daily to maintain an emerald green look that contrasts so much to the dry adjacent farmland. A dedicated team of gardeners and handymen/women maintain the site all year round.
Matamata, North Island, New Zealand. A spring walk around the 12-acre Hobbiton movie set used for the Lord of the Rings Hobbit film trilogies. This is the residence of Samwise Gamgee. Hobbiton is actually in the middle of a working farm of 1200 acres supporting 13,000 sheep and 300 Angus beef cattle. Kiwi film director Peter Jackson discovered the Alexander farm in September 1998 during an aerial search for film sites for The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The fantastic views and rolling countryside closely resembled that of the 'Shire’ in the popular classics by J.R.R Tolkien.
Hobbiton was located in the center of the Shire in the far eastern part of the Westfarthing. It was the home of many illustrious Hobbits, including Bilbo Baggins, Frodo Baggins, and Samwise Gamgee.
Of course, this was a tourist tour, but I enjoyed it to the fullest, as well as I love the books and movies.
Broughton Place from Hammer Head Hill in the Scottish Border hills one windy rainy day back in August. This scene could perhaps be Hobbiton in Tolkien's Middle Earth.
Matamata - New Zealand
The Hobbiton Movie Set was a significant location used for The Lord of the Rings film trilogy and The Hobbit film series. It is situated on a family run farm about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) west of Hinuera and 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) southwest of Matamata, in Waikato, New Zealand
I recently uploaded 50 photos from Lightroom CC to Flickr using the publishing service. Afterwards I deleted them from the publishing collection in LR. Sadly it deleted all these photos on Flickr as well! Along with it I have lost the favs and comments. I’m now re-uploading them. I apologise if you have seen these photos before and see them appear in my photo stream again. It’s been hard work.
