The white farmhouse buildings of Troutbeck Park stand out in the early morning sunlight below the wooden hill of "The Tongue".
The ridge line on the upper right is the oft walked route above Kentmere, taking in the Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick and Mardale Ill Bell. The colours are just starting to turn autumnal. I just like the way the early dappled light played out over this Lakeland Valley.
I made the amatuerish mistake of not checking my ISO settings as I grabbed this shot to catch the fleeting light and only noticed that I had taken it at 2500 ISO when I took the next shot much later in the day. That said, the old D750 still captured some lovely detail and it was worth a post!
Hirden (the hird) was a uniformed paramilitary organisation during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, modelled the same way as the German Sturmabteilung.
Many Hirden members volunteered to Norwegian military units in the war on Nazi German side or served as guards in the various prison camps.
Hirden had a broad mandate to conduct operations against dissidents, independent of all police authorities, many of which included the use of violence.

This Beaux Arts building, which houses the ferry slips for the Governor's Island ferry, was built in 1906 and was once called the Maritime Ferry Building, It is on the U.S. Register of Historic Places and the New York U.S. National Register of Historic Places and is #243 on the New York City Landmarks list. "Between 2001 and 2005, in a $36 million renovation, the exterior of the building and its deteriorating wooden piers were restored and its exterior repainted in its original multiple color scheme by Jan Hird Pokorny Architects." -- NYC 2008

A second consecutive day linesiding HSTs in Cornwall. The previous day's weather had been exceptional. This day's weather is best described as changeable. Five photo opportunities. Spin and win with the weather. What could go wrong ? At this stage with 25 days remaining for the Castle 255s it's a case of taking whatever the elements decide. We'd just been soaked in the green field behind in the minutes before the down 2C26 and gaps in the clouds had closed and the light levels dropped. However it had stopped raining. The bracken's autumn colours add to the scene as 43004 heads the 2P16 13.15 Penzance - Plymouth up the bank to the farm bridge with 43156 on the rear. Thanks once again to Jon Hird for providing me with the location gen for his bit of turf. There's some great locations in mid Cornwall unencumbered by the vegetation that seems to blight a lot of other locations.
