A Happy Bride ( Kiran ) .
At last the main wedding ceremonies are almost over and I can relax a bit.
Most of the Hindu marriages conducted in India and elsewhere are both social and religious functions. There is no uniformity on their social side. These are based on local customs and traditions. On the religious side, with minor variations, they follow some specific rituals as indicated on Vedas ( Hindu Holy scriptures )
My close friend Shuchika got married recently.. This was taken during her mehndi(henna) ceremony.

Laja Homam is the first ritual sacrifice performed by the couple as husband and wife. This is an offering of food to the celestials through the Agni for their blessings for a long married life. The brother of the bride provides the parched rice for the offerings. With the first offering to Agni, the wife says to husband “This grain I spill – May it bring to me wellbeing and unite you to me. May Agni hear us. They also seek prosperity to their relatives. After each offering the couple performs circumambulation of the fire.

Wedding is the most precious, prestigious and auspicious occasion of one’s life. Marriage is not an event that becomes history or fades couple of years later. It is an occasion, which should be remembered for the rest of the life. Similarly, wedding album is not a History book once written and forgotten. It’s a lifetime pleasurable moments you spent with your life partner and with family members. Wedding is an Olympian get-together and is a rare celebration. One should be serious about it and should not compromise with photography. Wedding photography is not capturing moments only but preserves for generations. Don’t let your lifetime memories and precious wedding photography in hands of amateur or friend. (Especially just because of price or cost. The truth is no one gives you Maruti Swift in cost of Maruti 800). Wedding and live events rely on being in the right place at right time, if your cameramen has limited experience he could very well missed precious moment!
I consider my self a wedding photojournalist. The Photojournalist is who narrate a story through the use of photographs. Wedding photojournalist is who takes pictures in wedding with different approach and point of view. Like photojournalist in media, wedding photojournalist present the story of the day through photographs. Basically they are storyteller. A wedding photojournalist captures emotions and facial expressions with different prospective. They do totally different type of photography unlike photographers does in studio or in other outdoor events.
This wedding was blend of Punjabi and Bengali(Bangoli ) style. I am so much fascinated with Indian culture and its traditions. May be that's because now I am into wedding photography as well. You can enjoy different culture, moods, and rituals in single day. Happy clicking!

Grihastha - गृहस्थ) literally means "being in and occupied with home, family" or "householder". It refers to the second phase of an individual's life in a four age-based stages of the Hindu ashram system. It follows Brahmacharya (bachelor student) life stage, and embodies a married life, with the duties of maintaining a home, raising a family, educating one's children, and leading a family-centred and a dharmic social life.
I am taking hold of your hand as a symbol of ever-lasting love and friendship between us, till we become old ,and as a pledge to bring forth good progeny. The Gods BAGAN , ARYAMAN, SAVITHA, INDRA have given you unto me to carry on the Grihastha Aasrama Dharma.. This Grihastha aasrama has been sanctified by the Gods from time immemorial and it is to this high heritage that I am now coming ,by taking your hand.
A day before the marriage of the bride, there is a tradition to celebrate this occasion with all the female relatives participate in solo or group dance on Rajasthani folk music.

Happily Ever After
I dedicate this shot to my cousin Ashish, who helped me with the title, he himself is one daam good artist, can bring any thing to life with his carving skills.
This picture was taken in my brothers wedding at Kolkata, India. Tried to potray the very basic ingredients in Bengali Hindu marriage .
The white cap like hat is called "Mukut" hand made with thermocol ( Groom's attire).
The red power is called "Sindur" (vermilion) , usually smeared on the forehead and at the parting of the hair (sithi) of Hindu married women. Which re-presents a married Hindu women.
The garlands are exchanged during the marriage.
The Gold Ornaments - a part of Indian traditions.
Well !! now all said , something about the background of this capture .
Next day after the wedding , I saw these items and got the idea of this shot. Borrowed the bangles and placed them on the glass table and took the shot at floor level.
Trying something different, I would highly appreciate, if constructive criticisms are given for improvement.
Enjoy the moment !!!!

MY OWN PRIVATE INDIA

I called James W. Hughes, policy-school dean at Rutgers University, who explained that Lyndon Johnson's 1965 immigration law raised immigration caps for non-European countries. LBJ apparently had some weird relationship with Asians in which he liked both inviting them over and going over to Asia to kill them.
After the law passed, when I was a kid, a few engineers and doctors from Gujarat moved to Edison because of its proximity to AT&T, good schools and reasonably priced, if slightly deteriorating, post–WW II housing. For a while, we assumed all Indians were geniuses. Then, in the 1980s, the doctors and engineers brought over their merchant cousins, and we were no longer so sure about the genius thing. In the 1990s, the not-as-brilliant merchants brought their even-less-bright cousins, and we started to understand why India is so damn poor.
Eventually, there were enough Indians in Edison to change the culture. At which point my townsfolk started calling the new Edisonians "dot heads." One kid I knew in high school drove down an Indian-dense street yelling for its residents to "go home to India." In retrospect, I question just how good our schools were if "dot heads" was the best racist insult we could come up with for a group of people whose gods have multiple arms and an elephant nose.
Unlike previous waves of immigrants, who couldn't fly home or Skype with relatives, Edison's first Indian generation didn't quickly assimilate (and give their kids Western names). But if you look at the current Facebook photos of students at my old high school, J.P. Stevens, which would be very creepy of you, you'll see that, while the population seems at least half Indian, a lot of them look like the Italian Guidos I grew up with in the 1980s: gold chains, gelled hair, unbuttoned shirts. In fact, they are called Guindians. Their assimilation is so wonderfully American that if the Statue of Liberty could shed a tear, she would. Because of the amount of cologne they wear.
LETTER TO EDITOR: THE INDIAN PANORAMA NEWS, NEW YORK
It looks like all Indian Organizations are taking the racial insult by Joel Stein as humorous article. May be for them it is a domestic dispute between Husband(Israeli’s) and wife (Indians) especially the Hindu & Sikh organizations. In 2009 a Israeli arms company Rafael made a promotional video to market arms & ammunition depicting over 1.2 billion Indians as helpless women and projecting them selves (Israeli’s) as macho man assuring the helpless women life long protection if they do what is asked them to do by the Israelis. In 2006 Indian’s were called “cockroaches, animals, illiterates & illegal go home by a Police Union members, supporters, spouse & family under a Jew President Michael Schwartz.
In contrast when Don Imus called the Rutgers American African women Foot Ball Team “Nappy Headed Hose” he was forced to resign from CBS & for more than 2 years could not find a job. This is same Don Imus who was counted among 25 most influential people in America in 2007. CNN Reporter Jack Caferty for his Goons comments for Chinese cost the network millions to settle the $1.3 billion law suit filed by Chinese besides seizing their head quarter in Atlanta for almost 1 day.
Only Indians take all racial slurs, epithets and insult as compliments to them especially from Jews. I wrote to a prominent Gujrati Leader to demonstrate out side Time magazine’s office in response to his e-mail; what action to take against Stein? He has yet to reply to that mail may be he is planning to Honor Joel Stein for the compliments to Indians. On a lighter note can Joel Stein write an article on the on going human genocide of Palestinians by Israeli’s for last 64 years?

Community activist alleges US hypocrisy
Aziz Haniffa, India Abroad, Washington DC
Immediately after US Congressman Steny Hoyer had completed his remarks, community
firebrand Dave Makkar from New Jersey sprang to his feet and shouted at Hoyer, accusing the US of utter “hypocrisy” while claiming to be India ’s friend and ally.
Makkar said even as the US declares its strategic partnership with India, it continues to provide Pakistan with massive military largesse, which Islamabad uses against India, and cross-border terrorism against India continues unabated. Makkar also alleged that the arms and technology Washington transfers to Israel is in turn supplied by Tel Aviv to China, another adversary of India which continues to arm Pakistan and condones its terrorist activities against New Delhi.
The embarrassed organizers subdued Makkar and convinced him to sit down and be quiet and not engage in a debate. A peeved Hoyer, who had earlier told Makkar that if he wanted “to make a speech to take it some place else,” declares to applause: “I don’t claim to be a friend of India -I am a friend of India.” “I do not claim that America has simplistic answers to all the questions you raised,” Hoyer said.
“One of the issues on terrorism as all of us know is western Pakistan , which is giving sanctuary to terrorists. It is in the best interest of America and all other people to try to defeat that area of terrorism and therefore it is a complicated question to pursue in terms of an alliance with people who are from time to time, not so focused as I would like them to be trying to take that out for their own purposes because they feel threatened.”
On the Israel issue, he said, “ Israel ’s integrity and independence is of critical concern to the United States of America. It is surrounded by enemies that have sworn to see its demise – period…. That is why United States transfers arms and technology (to Israel ), as we do to many other countries who are trying to defend their own freedom. I wish I had a simple answer…
US Media Terrorized 12yrs old Hindu for Demanding Equal Rights with Jews & Christians of his Town & Changes in Anti-Bullying Laws 86,288 views
“The New Jerseymedia especially the Jewish media was reprehensible. They were disappointing. It is reprehensible that those kinds of personal and crude attacks could be leveled at someone like this young 12 year old Middle school student who was simply expressing his opinion on a matter of public policy and doing it with a great deal of poise.”
“He was respectful, sincere, and spoke with conviction with Governor Christie. He provided a model of civil discourse,” “And yet, some of those who disagreed with his position – especially the Jewish Media and commentators throughout the blogosphere – responded with behavior that can only be described as misogynistic, vitriolic, and a misrepresentation of the position of this student on the issue of racial equality and changes in the existing Anti-Bullying Laws.”
