Jaipur’s most distinctive landmark, the Hawa Mahal is an extraordinary, fairy-tale, pink sandstone. This beautiful view of the red and pink palace and its 'Jarokas' taken from the ground floor reaching the top most structure!

The Sri Meenakshi temple has beautiful guards at the gate to chase away evil spirits. The emples of India are so ornate and inspiring.

Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, also known as the Pink City, is a very important monument of the city. The monument is five stories high and the front of the monument is delicately carved with beautiful motifs. It is an outstanding example of the Rajput style of architecture. Hawa Mahal is not exactly a palace but more like a screen of superbly sculpted windows that look like the front of a palace. The palace was built for the royal ladies of Rajasthan to view the busy city life from inside a veil. The panoramic view of the pyramid shaped palace of winds looks brilliantly magnificent. Blue sky forming the background of this pink sandstone structure makes it appearance mystic and beautiful!

The palace is so named because it was mainly a high screen wall built for the women of the royal household so they could observe street festivals while unseen from the outside. The palace is on the edge of the City Palace. This palace is a five-storey pyramidal shaped monument. Seen here are portholes with miniature windows and carved sandstone grills, finials and domes, intricately carved Jharokhas looking so pretty!

Banteay Srei a tenth century temple complex In Siem Reap is dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. Built of red sandstone, it is considered to be the finest example of Khmer (Cambodian) art.. The small sculptures of the walls demand a closer look. The large seated guardián statues with animal heads are apparently copies.

Thank you internet.

Ganesh is the Hindu God of knowledge. This line of Ganesh is used for making merit where you put coins in each pot and make a wish.

Ganesha is one of the best-known and most worshipped deities in the Hindu pantheon. Ganesha is widely revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect and wisdom. Hindu mythology identifies Him as the restored son of Parvati and Shiva of the Shaivism tradition, but He is a pan-Hindu God found in its various traditions.

Chhatris are elevated, dome-shaped pavilions used as an element in Indian architecture. Chhatris were commonly used to depict the elements of pride and honor in the Rajput architecture of Rajasthan. They are used widely, in palaces, in forts, or to demarcate funerary sites. Chhatris originated in Rajasthani architecture where they were memorials for kings and royalty. Later they were adapted as a standard structure in all buildings in Rajasthan and most importantly in Mughal architecture. These Chhatris in Hawa Mahal in Jaipur are in the interior of the palace. Made of red and pink sandstone they stand tall in the courtyard!

Shri Swaminarayan Mandir

Neasdon, London

Sadly, we have to leave the beach and travel to the last destination of this Indian trip. It was bittersweet for me. But along with spending time on a house boat, I wanted to revisit the beautiful city of Cochin.

Cochin is rich in history from the days of sea faring trade and despite adapting to modern technology it remains a charming and almost quaint city. Along the short journey to reach the city, there were many shops and beautiful handicrafts to buy.

I have now been to India four times. At first, the Hindu gods bewildered me. There are so many. Then some started to become familiar to me like old friends. I began to smile when I recognized them.

Ganesha is one of the best known deities in India. He is the god of beginnings and the deva of intellect and wisdom. He also is the patron of letters. He seems to do all of this effortlessly in this statue, doesn't he?

Jaipurâs most distinctive landmark, the Hawa Mahal is an extraordinary, fairy-tale, pink sandstone, delicately made palace that rises five storeys with its numerous windows and corridors. There are total of 953 windows which are uniquely carved in the Rajasthani pattern and designs. The king was worshipper of lord Krishna so he had appearance of this palace resembling the crown of Lord Krishna in the form of peacock feathers. This shot of the inside of the Hawa Mahal catches all the glory of this beautiful masterpiece of Rajasthani architecture!

Dussehra, also called Vijayadashmi, is one of the fascinating festivals of India and is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm for ten continuous days.

The first nine nights are spent in the worship of goddess Durga and hence these nights are known as "Navaratri". This festival falls in the month of Ashwin (September / October).

The tenth day of the Dassera day is in honour of Durga Devi.

It also commemorates the death of the evil king Ravana along with his son Meghanath and brother Kumbhakaran, at the hands of Rama.

The farmers invoke her blessings because this festival coincides with the period of rest and leisure after their strenuous work in the fields. The farmers with her blessings wait with tremendous hopes for a bountiful harvest.

Legend of Dusshera Festival

According to the Ramayana, Rama was the exiled prince of Ayodhya. While living in the forest, his wife Sita was abducted by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka. Rama, assisted by an army of monkeys, attacked Lanka to rescue her.

A fierce battle ensued between the two armies for many days as it was proving very difficult to beat the mighty Ravana. Rama then prayed for nine days to nine different aspects of Durga and accumulated enough strength to defeat Ravana.Durga divulged the secret to Ram how he could kill Ravana.

Then after vanquishing him, Ram with Sita and Laxman returned victorious to his kingdom of Ayodhya on Dassera day. Therefore, the festival of Durgotsava and Dassera is celebrated more in honour of Prabhu Ramchandra than Durgadevi .

Ramalila, a dance-drama narrating the story of Rama's life according to the Ramayana, is enacted for the nine days preceding Dussehra. Almost every area stages its own version of the play, preparations for which take place many days in advance.

Lepakshi is culturally and archaeologically significant as it is the location of shrines dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Veerabhadra which were built during the Vijayanagara Kings' period (1336–1646).[2] The temples are the location of mural paintings of the Vijayanagar kings and Kannada inscriptions. Near the temple complex is a large granite Nandi bull.

Speechless witnessing a new dawn!!!

Witnessing heaven giving birth to a new day.

To everything… there is a season,

I pounder…

A time to plant

and a time to harvest…

A time to embrace the light

and a time to watch the clouds…

“A time to cast a rock and count the ripples”

The enchanting glow of a morning sun,

the warmth of a wondrous fog

over a calming yet vigorous crop .

The constant reminder of a privileged time…

Witnessing yet another majestic dawn!

To everything… there is a season

I pounder…

“A time to cast a rock and count the ripples”
