Morgens mit Stativ
Die Stadtbibliothek am Mailänder Platz in Stuttgart war für mich ein absolutes Highlight.
Das Architekturbüro Eun Young Yi erhielt für sein Werk 2013 die Auszeichnung „Bibliothek des Jahres“ sowie unzählige weitere Preise für diesen fantastischen „Bücherwürfel“
Das Bauwerk misst 44x44x40 Meter und beinhaltet einen zentralen 14x14x14 Meter großen Kern, der „das Herz“ genannt wird.
Die Architektur ist funktional und sehr minimalistisch. Weiß als Hauptfarbe mit einigen wenigen Farbakzenten lässt die Architektur noch gewaltiger erscheinen.
Die Stuttgarter Stadtbibliothek bietet auf 9 Etagen fast 500.000 Medien. Die Baukosten betrugen nach Fertigstellung 2011 knapp 80 Millionen Euro.
The castle Klamm in upper Austria
1149 begann die Errichtung dieser eindrucksvollen und schönen Burg. Sie wird seit 23 Generationen von der Familie Clam bzw. Clam-Martinic bewohnt (Oberklammer, 2010, S87ff). Sie ist heute sicher eine der interessantesten Burganlagen in Österreich. Mir gefällt besonders die Lage der Burg, da sie mit ihrem imposanten Erscheinungsbild einen wundervollen Kontrast zur dörflichen Struktur der umliegenden Gemeinden bildet.
Wer näheres zur Burg wissen will sei auf den Link unten verwiesen. Zudem möchte ich auf einen Reiseführer verweisen, den mein Freund Dr. Eckhard Oberklammer über den Bezirk Perg geschrieben hat. Er beinhaltet eine umfangreiche, aber dennoch komprimierte Darstellung der Burg und ihrer Geschichte.

On our route from Imperial Sand Dunes to Joshua Tree National Park we passed these palm trees and we immediately decided to turn back and take a closer look at it. The amazing thing is this unuasal perspective when your eyes follow along the rows of palm trees. Aren't these kind of images not the ones we are all looking for - away from what we have seen thousands of times? For me it was the highlight of that day...

Auf unserer Route von den Imperial Sand Dunes zum Joshua Tree National Park kamen wir an diesen Palmen vorbei und beschlossen sofort, umzukehren und sie uns genauer anzusehen. Das Erstaunliche ist diese ungewöhnliche Perspektive, wenn das Auge den Palmenreihen entlang folgt. Sind diese Art von Bildern nicht die, nach denen wir alle suchen - weg von dem, was wir tausende Male gesehen haben? Für mich war es das Higlight des Tages...
Manchmal kommt ein Streiflicht unverhofft daher. Sozusagen die Gunst der Sekunde.

So nun meine absoluten Higlights vom Sonntag... Uns stockte der Atem als auf einmal dieser männliche Sperber von hinten über die Hütte geflogen kam... Erst mal die Lage peilen...

The correct settings for this shot would be with iso 100 but I didn't have time to change it in that moment so I had to reduce the higlights in photoshop :)
The Long Room in the Old Library, Trinity College, Dublin.
From a photographic context the library at Trinity College was the place I wanted to visit the most in Dublin. Due to large number of visitors I was more successful filling the frame, than shooting the library as a whole.

Believe it or not, very little editing has been done to this image. These colors are 100% real and actually slightly desaturated. Just a few higlight/shadow tweaks and white balance corrections were all that was needed. Joshua Tree National Park is a photographer’s dream. I felt like a kid in a candy store!

Don't be deceived by the divine light. The bridge isn't safe.
The image is an HDR from 3 handheld exposures. Then a bit of manual blending, curves, levels, shadow/higlight filter, dodge and burn plus some cloning away of burnt out spots.
The place is Svartsengi, home to a geothermal powerplant and the Blue lagoon. I used my lunch break the other day to take a short walk around the place with my camera.
I've been thinking and daydreaming of achieving a look like this for a while now. The idea was originally inspired by Rarindra's Prakarsa work. I might have done a few things to improve the image like using a tripod, taking additional +/- 4EV exposures and moving the fence to the left, which might be considered as vandalism.

The bay of Natashquan: far North-East Quebec, the last town on the road of the North coast of the Saint Laurent bay.
I took this picture close to sunset, walking on the beach at low tide and holding the camera close the the ground to use the reflections on the wet sand. I looked for lines in the clouds and in the sand that directed to the center of interest: the houses.
In terms of post-processing, I worked on increasing the contrast on the houses and decreasing it far from them, as well as on the colors.
Technically, I used the darktable software. I used the equalizer contrasts with the bloom preset far away from the houses to drecrease the contrast, and on the houses with the clarity preset to increase it there. I also used the soften filter on the bottom of the image to smooth it even more. For the colors, I used split toning, pushing the shadow to a deep purple and the higlights to light yellow. On the right of the image (slightly bottom), I also used color correction to push the highlights even more to yellow.
Ein weiteres Higlight der Rheintalsperrung 2024 war der RDC Autoreisezug von Hamburg-Altona nach Lörrach Gbf. Wegen der zusätzlichen Sperrung der Hochrheinbahn musste der Zug in Singen und Offenburg Kopf machen und konnte so an einem Motivklassiker der Schwarzwaldbahn bei Stockburg fotografiert werden. Zuglok war an diesem Tag die 101 071.
