....then some bloke turned up with a big golden nought to finish the game...

Mallaig, Scotland, 2013

Here is Charlie in a RuffWear high visibility jacket. He is so hard to fit a dog coat to AND he really quite dislikes it.

However, I like being able to spot him.

The coat is not insulated, it is just for visibility. He has a very dense and thick hound coat, a gift from his Mini Daschund father.

His wee legs keep getting caught up in the belly band and we are working on a solution.

In the photo below you can see how difficult it is to see that little dog even in the winter with snowfall!

An art piece by Joyce and Peter Majendie. There was more to this, but the canopy over the whole tree has now gone.

The tree still seems to be growing well in it's hi-vis jacket that nearly all the workers in Christchurch wear.

I'm not sure what the event was but all of the runners were highly visible! Irvine Beach.

The dangers of Federation square are too numerous to count! More than the regular outdoors? Who can know? This electronic advertisement rotates though a series of images I had to wait for this one to reappear. I waited for people to walk though this scene and it took me a while to get a person who also contrasted with the blue sign enough.

Also. While processing the RAW file, I could not for the life of me get things square/horizontal or vertical. The site itself slopes so I just made the best compromise I could.

Build & Destroy: High Vis…

They do seem to have stopped work.

I caught the end of the shift meet up for the HuangGu district cleaning crew. The guy on the right who gave me the funny look turned and said "hey look a foreigner taking pictures" his mates ignored him.

Washing off the paint to reveal a beauty....

Thats was lucky, for a while there it looked like we might have to put up with just black paint....how sad...

Hi Vis tea break…

Again an amateurish attempt at candid photography, really enjoying this subject and hopefully with time I'll get the knack of it.

This is maybe the rarest HAF F-16 example spotting-wise. It's actually a Blk50 airframe upgraded to Blk50M. This was the initial airframe of the PXII program, which stayed in US for future development and certification procedures for future PX programs. Since it's joined the rest of the HAF F-16 fleet, it flies with 335M Tiger. The most apparent differences from the rest Blk52M fleet are the highvis stencils, the 4-digit serial number, the luck of squadron tailband. Notice that it's equipped with GE engine rather than a PW as all of the PXIV deliveries.

High-visibility fabric paint was invented by an American named Bob Switzer, who in the 1930s was injured in an workplace accident. During his recovery, he invented a neon-coloured paint by mixing fluorescent minerals with wood varnish. He tested out his new paint, which he called Day-Glo, on his wife’s wedding dress, and it took off from there. It wasn’t long before he and his brother were manufacturing it on a huge scale, making inroads into the toy sector and beyond.

Even the military took notice. In World War II, fluorescent panels were used to send signals from the ground up to planes; crews on aircraft carriers wore fluorescent fabric to demarcate where planes should land; and buoys were painted with it to denote which areas had been cleared of mines.

Over the next few decades, it became a central part of work wear in the U.S. and abroad, with laws mandating its use. For example, in the U.K., high-visibility clothing was first adopted by rail workers in the 1960s. Then, the 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act, and the Personal Protective Equipment Act of 1992 guaranteed it would become a permanent feature of work uniforms for maintenance workers in the U.K.

So now you know.

Tiverton, Devon, UK.

Taken on Great Southern Road, Aberdeen, just up from the King George VI bridge over the River Dee, on September 11th, 2022, as the hearse carrying the body of Queen Elizabeth II was driven through the Granite City on its way from Balmoral Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh.

The hearse is led down Great Southern Road by a Police Scotland motorcycle rider. Behind the hearse is a red Bentley State Limousine (one of two identical cars custom-built by Bentley for the Royal Family) carrying Princess Anne - the Queen's only daughter - and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence. I saw the Princess through the limousine window, but was unable to take photos.

Earlier than usual into London today, and caught 4 white horses from the royal mews getting their exercise.
