There was a stiff 25mph wind yesterday and the courageous kite surfers were out and having a ball.
This is the first of several images I will post from my hour of shooting their action.
It looks like a blast and they made it look easy. But I know better and I would think it requires a person to be a good swimmer, in good shape, have excellent balance, and also be adventurous and comfortable with fairly high risk activities :)
Our city, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, is known as the "Malibu of the Midwest" because of our large waves and a lakefront that is ideal for watersports.
Surfers came from all over when they hear conditions are right for their extreme water sports.
Enjoy!
The president of the National Farmers Union, Peter Kendall, said it was "indefensible" that such a high-risk environment could have been allowed to get into a state of disrepair.

The recent foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in Surrey was probably caused by leaking drains, heavy rain and building work, a report has found.
The Health and Safety Executive said it was not clear which of the two labs at Pirbright, four miles from where the disease was found, were responsible.
Chief vet Debby Reynolds said Surrey was disease-free and the surveillance zone would be lifted on Saturday.
The environment secretary said there was no excuse for the outbreak.

In Bangladesh there are 27.7 million adolescents aged 10-19 years. The urban scene may not be as same as the rural areas. Many of them migrate to urban areas to work as day laborers and also compelled to accept high risk and hazardous jobs.

Panorama from yesterday's local high risk of severe weather.
I approached a quickly moving squall line around 1pm with a severe thunderstorm warning over my location in Coles County, and to my north, a tornado warning was issued for Douglas County. This squall line had some obvious embedded rotation as seen in the structures above in this panorama - all the magic happened for this composition after I core punched the storm and then drove through the outer edge in order to see the front side of it again before it broke apart and reformed later.
The sunlight came out for a little while and lit up the structures of the storm and a double rainbow formed directly ahead of the most interesting structures. This was absolutely beautiful! I sat along Route 121 and stared as this happened, with a smile on my face.
This is one of my favorite shots from yesterday. All my thoughts go out to Gifford and Washington, Illinois after being devastated by tornadoes.

As the storm proceeded to "chase me" down the road, I heard a chaser on the radio shout that a funnel was forming!
He was not kidding, this little stubby thing formed out of nowhere and was rotating rapidly. It was also acting like a satellite vortex and rotating around the large parent mesocyclone. It eventually ended up directly behind me and was eaten by the storm.
Definitely woke me up!

June 12, 2013:
A newly developed supercell prompts a severe thunderstorm warning over Ottawa in LaSalle County during the late afternoon hours in Northern Illinois midst a rare high risk for severe weather, issued by the SPC (Storm Prediction Center.)
I drove a total of 380 miles last Wednesday and picked a target area near Pontiac and Dwight, although as the day progressed the best activity remained to the northwest - so I made change of plans and hauled a** to where the storms were seemingly in their prime and beginning to develop over and near LaSalle County...so, I stopped on a country road off of Route 71 northeast of Ottawa and somewhat south of Wedron where I would be sandwiched between two storms; a non-severe storm to my northwest, and lastly this newborn supercell to my southwest.
This severe thunderstorm depicted some amazing structure during its maturing phase. Take notice of the brilliant downdraft/rain foot, where outflow winds, rain, and hail fall meanwhile the updraft base was gorgeously textured and rippled in appearance while the sun's glow remained beneath and behind the storm, thus providing amazing lighting for this composition. The striations could have been better, but for being outflow dominant, I have no complaints.

All in all, this was a really fun and adrenaline pumping day. This long drive was worth it especially for it being my first ever upstate/Northern Illinois and high risk severe weather chase.
Enjoy!

I understand these two saved hundreds of lives before contracting the Z virus at work. It’s unfortunate for the rest of us that we voted for mediocre government representatives and put up with an overwhelmed health industry that didn’t do more to protect these healthcare workers, which in turn protects us.
New Forest Wild Deer at Night (Dangerous)
A clip of the deer running across the unlit roads of the New Forest straight into the lines of oncoming traffic in both directions.
They almost always move as a herd, so if you see one others are very close by and will run across the road without warning. Exactly what happened here.
The speed limit across the New Forest is 40mph but as you can see from my dash cam - 30mph is fast in complete darkness and even when I slowed to 12mph, the deer still suddenly appear from nowhere.
At 40mph the deer would have died without a shadow of a doubt.
At the very beginning of the clip, there are 3 horses, two on the left and one on the right side of the road, grazing at the edge of the road and they also walk across the road without any warning.
The music was from my car radio - I didn't realise the dash cam would pick it up so clearly! (Walk this Way - Run DMC / Aerosmith). Moments earlier I had been singing along, so I'm glad you've been spared my warblings too.
I will attempt to briefly explain what happened yesterday, which was my first long distance weather observation and "storm chase" lol.
Yesterday morning I had awaken with only 3 hours of sleep under my belt. I suppose it was excitement enduced, because the day/night before yesterday (06/11/2013,) the SPC (Storm Prediction Center) placed a moderate risk for severe weather across upstate Illinois, and Indiana. My sleeping issues weren't so well off combined with this excitement either (haha!)
Likewise, last night departed and the morning (06/12/3013) arrived. The SPC upgraded the moderate risk of severe weather to a high risk, which is considerably RARE this time of year - especially it being in Northern Illinois as well as Indiana.
The SPC placed the high risk due to significant chances of strong tornadoes, hail up to two inches in diameter, as well as winds up to 70-80mph.
This description will remain shorter than a giant write-up, as I am not wanting to be a bore.
Following all the above mentioned words...
- I drove a total of 380 miles
- Scored a couple decent looking storms with severe t-storm warnings
- Made my first trip to upstate/Northern Illinois
- Had a few bouts of very bad luck, and unbelievably was able to overcome these happenings (guardian angels were watching over me, perhaps?)
- Met a few nice and genuine folks
- Witnessed hundreds of wind turbines (lol)
- Last but not least, it was very humid
Now that you saw the highlights of yesterday afternoon, this photo above is simply a 4-image panorama of a newly developed severe thunderstorm north of Ottawa, near Wedron, Illinois off Route 71.
Possibly a couple more images on the way in the future from yesterday's upstate adventure.
Enjoy :)

I'm writing this from the hospital. Oddly enough, the maternity ward has a free wireless network, and I happened to bring my laptop with me to work yesterday morning. The day started well enough, but around lunchtime I began to notice that I wasn't noticing baby Felix moving. By afternoon I was in a panic. I called my clinic. I was instructed to drink something cold and sweet, lie down on my side for an hour, and count how many times the baby moved. He didn't. At all. I'd been given an emergency nurse line to call. I was told to get myself to the hospital. Thankfully the in-laws were available to take the little man after school, and the husband was able to meet me here. After some initial hemming and hawing in the exam room, a specialist from the perinatal clinic came in, took the helm of the ultrasound machine, and delivered the bad news. Baby Felix is gone. Just, gone. Later on I called my folks. My step-mother wanted to know what happened. Well, nothing. Nothing has happened, or is happening. The baby has ceased to be. But what will happen...well, labor will be induced sometime later this morning and we'll get to see little Felix before we say goodbye to him. The sedative I was given makes this all seem even more surreal, but my eyes still sting from crying.

So the road I was on became increasingly more and more bogged down. It was to the point where traffic was down to 5mph with so many chasers, spotters and locals coming up from the metro Oklahoma area to see the storms.
For my own safety I bailed south on some road that looked to continue over a small creek bed. About 15 others followed me!
Heading down the road which was paved, things slowly got worse and worse. The pavement turned to gravel, which then turned to Oklahoma clay and mud.
If you've never driven on a dirt road in Oklahoma, basically the instant it get's wet your stuck and not moving!
A random local who was in a rush to leave their house jumped out from a hidden driveway and slowed me down from 40 mph to 10 mph! This was bad!
We were not able to out run the moisture HP storm and a pocket of rotation went right over head!
Then the rain and hail started as we crossed the dry river bed that my GPS said there was a bridge over!!!
The driver river quickly became a wet hail filled river and only 5 cars behind me made it though, the other were trapped!
On the radio one of the chasers said that it was getting bad as baseballs began to take their car apart. I was just far enough south that I only had a few golf balls to worry about and then I made it into the clear.
These are situations that storm chasers should never find themselves in.
